Thanks, Alan We did get reservations at Ederle via their website, although we will call 24 hrs. ahead to confirm. Everything was pretty tight the 3rd week in April because of spring break but we changed our itinerary and got Camp Darby too. So, things are looking good thanks to all the great help on this website! Barbara |

This is in answer to Barbara. We just got home from 2 1/2 week vacation in Germany and Italy. Easily got rooms everyplace( to include Garmish) but Ederle. Called for several days but all rooms were full. Finally told them I was retired flag officer and we got DV rooms, but all others were full. Stayed in the same building that I stayed in 3 years ago. |

Brian, thanks for the detailed explanation. I wasn't aware of the "chapel" gate which makes it easier to just walk into town. |

There are actually 3 different gates that you can enter the base from. The main one is on Via Aldo Moro and is open 24 hours to vehicle traffic only. There is the "chapel" gate which is open to incoming traffic in the morning and outgoing traffic in the afternoon. It is also the main pedestrian gate 24hrs and is on Via Della Pace. This is the main road that runs in front of the base and where you catch the #1 bus to the train station. There is also a side gate that is refereed to as the "housing" gate as you need to go out to get to the housing office. It is open during normal duty hours to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The only change they did to the main gate was to extend the access road to keep traffic off Via Aldo Moro in the morning as it would back up there and was a hazard. |

We walked out the "old" gate into town to eat pizza. |

Mark, recalulate your coordinates as these put you in to a farm field a good distance south of the base. I thought that John D was referring to what appears to be a building site at N45.55098 / E011.58176. The old entrance to the lodging desk was N45.54982 / E011.58055. If memory serves me correctly the gate has been at the the same location that William describes for the last 4-5 years or more. |

This address should take you to the entrance to the base. It is a divided road so you may have to go to the next crossover and come back to the entrance. Put this into your GPS. Via Aldo moro 91 36100 Vicenza Italy |

Danny Hamilton, Your coordinates are correct. The new addition is at that location too. The new entrance to the base is on that double road that runs beside the base. Both are on Lelands POI's that you can download to your GPS. |

Bob & Brian, can either of you (or both) provide GPS coordinates for the lodging building on Camp Ederle? If you can locate the lodging building using Google Earth, just place your mouse's cursor over the building and then look down on the screen & at the center of the bottom of the screen will be the coordinates of wherever your mouse is resting. For example: Lat 45.549694 Lon 11.580797 (Which is where I think it MIGHT be.) Can you confirm that location as being correct? If not, can you provide the correct coordinates? Thanks! Danny |

Looking at the entrance to lodging, the new addition is to the left. |

John, thanks I see a construction site on Google Earth just north of the original lodging facility so I presume that's the new one. |

I stayed here three years ago and enjoyed the surrounding area. In looking at their website I see they have gone through a renovation. Is lodging in the same location or is there a new building? |

If you rent a car in Italy, I would advise that take the insurance from the company. It will save you hassles if something happens to the car. |

The Medevac bus stops off at the commissary parking lot which is walking distance from lodging. The whole base is small and you can walk form one end to the other in about 5 minutes. They were doing an expansion project of Lodging when we PCSed last June so don't know how far along it is. Your best bet is to call and make reservations prior to arrival. Have any of you CAT VI's stayed at Ederle lately? Are reservations hard to get? How far away is it from the Vicenza Hosp. Medevac drop-off point? Can you recommend another place to stay nearby? If we take the Medevac bus from Landstuhl we'll get in late and rental car office will be closed. |
