When in San Diego I stay at the Marine Corps base where they do basic training. It is near the airport and has relatively little automobile traffic compared to other places in San Diego. |

We have stayed at the San Diego base's Navy Lodge, that provided 2 queen beds in a large room, plus an equipped kitchen area, thus easily accommodating 4 people (or more, if a rollaway or crib was brought in). It was an easy stroll to the Commissary to stock up on breakfast and snack items, and the NEX travel office was also nearby for getting discount tickets to various local sights or transportation. You'd pay more than $40 but a LOT less than $120! (If they say they have no rooms, go in person and stand there looking forlorn and acting nice -- that's how my husband got OUR room.) |

Have you tried the Navy Lodge? They're a bit more than regular billeting (Gateway Inn) but should allow children under 12. MCAS Miramar has an Inn as well. In addition to Karen's suggestion, try: http://www.hotwire.com Good luck. |

Try www.priceline.com. I don't know when you're traveling but the unofficial betterbidding.com site shows that in March, rooms are being had on Priceline for good prices. 3 star Holiday Inn on the Bay, $46 plus taxes. 2 star, Mission Valley King's Inn, $25 plus taxes. |

anyone know any cheap (but decent) lodging/hotels in the san diego area? I checked all the NAS and other bases around there but none allow children under 12 and I have 2..bummer. Anyway I checked most online and I'm looking at $120+ a night w/ military discounts. I was hoping on the $40 a night for military lodging. Looking to stay about 2 nights. If no one knows any I'll re-post if I find anything cheap and decent when I go down there. |
