>Circumvenusa (sp?)

"Circumvesuviana"

Their tracks are on the lower level of the train station.

That train heads south from Napoli Centrale, all the way to Sorrento. Along the way, you can get off at Ercolano (Herculaneum) or Pompeii (Pompeii Scavi). Touring the ruins at Pompeii is an awesome thing to do. Herculaneum is also quite interesting, though not as spectacular as Pompeii.

Sorrento is a very nice place to visit, though it is quite touristy. At Sorrento, you can catch a ferry over to Capri.

Dom, you could consider something just outside town on the Circumvenusa (sp?) - the local train. Guess it depends how close you want to be to the base. I'm finishing my trip report from our trip to Naples last month, will try to post today.

Space-A lodging will be tight there at least the last week of April (couldn't even get TDY reservations). Check the spacea.net Wiki page for some info on directions between Capo and Napoli Centrale railway station.

And, as to your other question . . .

Everything at the Capodichino site is close to the passenger terminal. It's a fairly compact place.

To get to the train station, Napoli Centrale, exit from the gate near the terminal, walk down the road, then turn right toward the civil air terminal.

Enter the terminal, and go to the little store to the right of the entrance, and ask for "biglietti" (one per person per ride). Walk out of the terminal, and go to the right. Look for the bus island next to the parking area, and wait for the 3S bus. This bus will take you (with a few stops along the way) to the train station.

Be certain to put your bus ticket into the little validating machine inside the bus (attached to a vertical pole), and stamp it. If an inspector boards, and your ticket isn't stamped, you're in a whole lotta trouble.

The desk at the Capo Inn does have recommendations for local hotels. I'm assuming (without knowing) that these places will be decent.

Dom, I have been trying to get lodging at Naples Gateway Inn for the last few weeks for the week of 20 Apr and have not been successful, even at the Navy Lodge. They tell me that they are full to the end of Apr or there abouts. Dont know if this is the trend or not. I would look into off base lodging. I know that there is a Ramada Inn downtown for about $100 a night. There is off base hotels near the gate but dont know anything about it. Good luck

I am planning to space-A to Naples in the next few days. I have never been at that base. Has anyone stayed at the BOQ at NAS Naples. How convenient is to the passenger terminal and to the main train station fo travel south and/or north. Any information on cost/night at the BOQ would also be helpful as would suggestions on nearby civilian hotels? Thank you.
