There are several very nice gardens on the eastern side -helicopter rides available over the coast and mountains-also a dazzling (to me ,anyhow)St Regis hotel near Princeville(terrific views from the restaurant!) |

husb is retired O-4 and that might be why I remember $90. Well worth it, ocean front, 2 bedroom, washer and dryer etc etc
Galley only is open mon-Fri and is several miles from the cabins, need car

I was at Barking Sands a couple of weeks ago. For a BOQ type room (not on the ocean) it was $50./night. The cottages on the beach were $80./night. There might be some variation based on rank. You can eat in the galley. B was $2.30. L was $4.25. Hope this helps. |

we were there for a week last fall and I seem to remember $90 a night for the beach cottage (very NICE beach cottage)..area is quite remote
and we liked it that way. Enjoyed the galley as retirees. The following week we were in a super condo on the more populated (ha)side of the island (govarm.com?) which was a fun contrast. |

Martin-
The cottages are great! Beautiful beach...we watched pods of whales go by each day we were there. The base is a little isolated, but that suits us fine. I understand they just completed some new cottages which only makes it better. I like to hike and Kauai is my favorite island. There's Waimea Canyon, the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. Great beaches like Poipu. Na Pali coast. Zip line adventures. Great kayaking. The only navigable river in the islands. And, of course, all the other "things to do" in Paradise; luaus, golf, great restaurants. The ladies who work at the reservation/check in center are very knowledgeable and helpful. Enjoy! |

I just called the number for single sailors and was told the 4752 number is still valid. It's busy when I call it. Make sure you are calling during Hawaii duty hours if you're calling from another time zone (e.g. east coast). |

Have been trying to contact lodging at PMRF Barking Sands in Kauai for several days. No one answers the phone.
Two questions -- the number I have is 808-335-4752. Is that a good number?
Has anyone stayed there and can you give me any overall comments about the lodging and things to see around the island? |
