Jerry, I carry a collapsible frame kayak in my trunk along with a couple of fly rods. The kayak gets me away from people and into some places other boats avoid. I am going to have to head south and give their waters a try. Did you by chance stop by air ops to see if Grissom had anything going out? |

I decided that I needed to get away for a little fishing and took a trip to Crane Indiana. The weekend I stayed, April 10, was the opening day for the Marina. You would have thought there was a bass tournament going on. Busiest I have ever seen it. Must have been at least 10 trucks with boat trailers in the parking lot. I didn’t want to rent a boat, and since I was staying in the Gateway Inn, 25.00 shared room with kitchen. Very nice Inn. Very relaxing! Saw a bald eagle and numerous deer and turkeys. Crane Naval base is a sportsman’s heaven! I made the mistake of going to Stolls restaurant on Sunday. I wasn’t thinking; Amish don’t work on Sundays! On Sunday I drove over to Fairfield Ohio and picked up a load of stuff out of a storage locker and decided to stay overnight at Grissom ARB. $39.00 a night. Very nice inn. Mints on the pillows and high Def TV. Sure a lot different that when I came in the Navy in 1975! |
