After several years of crossing the country by POV up to twice a year, my lovely wife and I decided to move to California to be near my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. I made reservations at the appropriate times for Little Rock AB, Dyess AB, and Fort Bliss. We left Nashville, TN, and stayed the first night at Little Rock AB. I asked for VIP quarters and received them for $48.25. The suite was fine but on the second floor with no elevator. No big problem. The second night was at Dyess AB, and I again requested VIP quarters. The put us in the Abilene House and we had the nicest quarters I have seen in military lodging! Again, the price was $48.25 for the night. Thanks, Air Force for your hospitality! The third night found us at Fort Bliss, Texas. We were privileged to stay in Pace Hall, an old building but one that has been kept in very good shape. It was just a room but the bath was one of the best that we have seen. The price of the room was $55. Thanks, Army, for your help in making our last auto trip across the USA a journey to remember! |
