Motel 6 on 1604 & Bandera is a really nice one. It is only about 5 years old and very nice. With advance reservations, you can probably get the room with two queens, refrig & microwave for $45 or so. It is well worth the money and only about 20 min from Lackland. It is very near Sea World. We have stayed there many times, because we had our dog with us traveling to Colorado. |

As one who lives on Lackland, I would suggest that you consider basing where you stay on what you want to do while you are in San Antonio. The traffic can be a real pain, especially if you are staying on the opposite side of the city from what you are interested in seeing. |

AF lodging is still available at the old Kelly AFB, now under control of Lackland. Lackland proper also has lodging as does Randolph on the other side of San Antonio. I think the old Brooks City Base is in the process of shutting down and may no longer have billeting. I agree that the facilities at Ft Sam Houston are not up to $90/night standard, except the DVQ which is top notch. I've sample all three facilities at Ft Sam in the past, and I lived on post for three years (97-2000). |

Unless the lodging at Ft. Sam Houston is new or has been renovated, it isn't worth $90. Is there still lodging at the old Kelly AFB? |

I would stay at Brooks City Base about 5 miles south. Mostly BRAC'ed but lodging is still open. http://www.dodlodging.net/VT_Brooks.htm |

Betterbidding says Priceline is getting four star hotels in riverfront San Antonio for about $85. |

Allan you probably have a better shot at getting lodging on Lackland Airbase. Just google airforce lodging and the link comes up. We use to go to San antonio all the time and it was very hard to get a room at Sam, Good luck |

Not having ever been to the Ft. Sam lodging, but we have stayed at other Army lodgings, I would say spend the extra $27.00 and stay off post. You're not going to get $90.00 worth of value at the base. |

Has anyone stayed at the Ft Sam Houston lately? I'm thinking of making a reservation at the newly taken over contractor run lodging at Ft Sam Houston and would like to get some feedback on overall quality of the lodging. Would it be better to stay on base for $90 plus tax at Ft, Sam Houston or would it be better to stay at a Homewood Suites near by for $117 plus tax a night? |
