Is the Bitburg housing annex, near Spang, still open as when I was there, they had a commissary and other services there. Perhaps, they have billeting facilities as well and shuttle service from Spang. I'm not current on this, but this might be useful to know if the facility still exists.

Spang probably has the largest and nicest TLF's in the system. They are up on the north end of the base by housing.

They were always available when I was traveling with my son.

They are primarily for PCS'ing folks, so you have a very good chance of getting one for a night or two. It is probably more difficult to hang out there for a week or two.

Spangdahlem does have military lodging that accepts children. Spang is an older installation which has just about everything including base housing. They also have a very nice lodging facility that look fairly new. We stayed in them a few months ago and were very pleased with our room and the facility. Happy Travels.

oops, meant to say I don't know of any AF bases where families can get stationed that don't have TLFs.

Cherry - Since families can get stationed at Spang, they have TLFs. I don't know if there are any AF bases that don't have TLFs.

Does Spang even HAVE military lodging that accepts children?

I ask because at many bases, the lodging is set up primarily for the convenience of air crews passing through who may need to sleep at odd hours, and therefore children (who, as we know, do make noise even when very well behaved) are not permitted.

(Kristin, I also wonder about your characterization of yourself as a dependent. Didn't you say you work at the school? Does that employment possibly entitle you to travel space-a 'on your own account' so to speak, rather than as a dependent of [presumably] your Active Duty husband?)

What is the typical availability like for a dependant and a 2.5 year old in the peak season? I've heard Spang isn't as busy as Ramstein, but I don't want to be searching at the last minute if I can be prepared ahead of time.
