I was right. When we checked in I was told that I had been upgraded because no cheaper rooms were available. Having played in a golf tournament on MacDill that afternoon in near-100 degree heat, I was more than willing to pay $48 for a beautiful DV suite for that night. It contained the normal furnishings, nice living room with couch, over-stuffed chair, kitchenette, bath with shower and bedroom with queen bed. Very, very nice. I would have to believe the regular rooms at $38 would be as comfortable.

Will keep you informed. I asked for a regular resevation for each of us. Sounds to me like we will have DV suites.

...as John D posted below, use the http://dodlodging.net/ web page and see all the AF Inns & Navy Gateway Inns...with their respective accomodations & prices (VQ, DVQ, VOQ, VAQ, VIP, TLF & WTD). There's also phone numbers, directions, local weather, pictures of accomodations and you can book on line if you can access their https sites.

There are also links to the Army Lodging Directory, MC Lodging Directory & the Navy Lodges.

Having trouble remembering the site name or don't have it in your computer....look in John D's Space-A Pages (above left).

Interesting??

I stayed at MacDill 13 months ago for two nights. I paid the standard rate for a standard room. I don't remember the cost but it was typical for most of the rooms during my 2 week trip.

My room was really a double room and reminded me of two older renovated BOQ rooms with a shared bath between them. The bedroom had a queen bed (I think) and typical amenities. The renovated bath was between the bedroom and "living area". It had a small refrig, micro, TV, couch and a small tables. I think there was even a "cot" to provide for extra family members.

The location was across the street to the south and possibly two buildings to the west.

The rooms were more than adequate and I really enjoyed the base facilities. I love their walking/running path along the water.

Jack did mention that rooms were scarce and maybe his was one of the few rooms available.

$48.25 is still a good price!!

I am an a retired O-4 but I don't think that I was given any special consideration and I certainly don't expect any. I am so "country boy" common and all I need is a bed and some basic amenities.

Happy Trails!!!

AT $48.25, Jack has been slotted into DV VOQ. Some places I have stayed, have put me in DV VAQ, but when I asked for regular lodging I usually get it and save nearly $10. And although it's not quite as nice, it is still a two-room suite. Not bad even at the price Jack was quoted.

Jack,
What type of accomodations did you receive. Most of the USAF patrons have reported a rate of $39.00 per night.

A couple of weeks ago my wife and I stayed at MacDill for 4 night @ $39.00/night. Maybe they put you VIP rooms.

You "should" find that USAF Lodging rates are standard (which explains the same $39 charged).

The standard list of rates is posted under the Space-A Lodging info at Spacea.net.

I stayed at the Dover AF Inn last week for two nights and the rate was $39 per night. Made reservations at the Niagara Falls AFR Base in New York for 2 nights in mid-July and believe the price is also $39 per night.

Happy travels!

Used the MacDill website to attempt a reservation for June 11 as a friend an I will be playing in a Marine golf tournament that day, extending into evening hours. Email came today informing me that they were completely booked that date. I immediately called and was told "no problem" so I booked two rooms for another officer and I. Price: $48.25 each. Will report on the accomodations after we use them.
