Angela, Welcome to the world of Space-A Travel. As a newbie, please read through the Space-A FAQ and other info at www.spacea.net. It should answer some of the basic questions you have. |

Also as part of the mix they are giving Sembach to the Army and are no longer using several hundred rooms that were available out there. Don't know if that's temporary during a change over or a permanent thing because the Army has other uses for the former lodging rooms. As a side note - when we arrived two weeks ago we were told that we could email a reservation in to lodging@ramstein.af.mil 24 hours in advance. But when we arrived at the front desk last night they said it takes 48 hours to process emails when they decide to look at them (that's just good military humor there). So, lesson learned is calling 24 hrs prior is better than an email. I'm on Cat III leave and was able to walk in at 8pm last night and get 1 night at the Cannon but everything else including Vogleweh was full. It seems to kind of be luck of the draw on the the day you are there. We are staying one more night and see what we get for later today. |

James: As I understand the situation, it's rather simple. The new facility has around 300 rooms, some of which are only available for aircrews. Secondly, the former facilities are being renovated which takes them out of the mix. Third, there is a lot more traffic to RMS because of troop and cargo movement. |

I can't understand why billeting at Ramstein is so tight, after they opened the huge new hotel there. Anyone know what's going on? JC |

Gary, the shuttle schedule for Ramstein to Vogelweh is available on the Spacea.net Ramstein page. |

We stayed at Vogelweh for one night last month. Took a taxi from Ramstein but there was a shuttle bus the next morning at 6 a.m. so we rode that back. We were able to get a room at the Ramstein Inn the next night. We were lucky enough to get a room where you check in at Vogelweh otherwise it would have been another taxi ride to our room. |

Be careful about Ramstein giving you a room over at Vogelweh (in Kaiserslautern). It is a 25 Euro cab ride and there is no transportation (shuttle or otherwsise) once you get there and no way to get back to Ramstein. |

When you get manifested on the Ramstein flight, call billetting then and see if you can get a reservation. If you can't, always go to lodging in person after arrival. |

Bill, their policy and reservation form is available on the Spacea.net Ramstein Wiki Page. Typically they'll accept Space-A reservations 24-hours in advance for 3 days. |

Ramstein is tight normally during the year and should have less opportunities during the summer peak periods. You can attempt a reservation 24-hours in advance. If they are full you can wait in a stand-by line at 1800 to see if there were cancellations. Over the years I have got a room more often than not, but it is a roll of the dice. Good luck. |

Never stayed at Ramstein--always passed thru or went by but this next month June-July-August, we plan to grab a flight from Lackland and take the knapsak tour around Ramstein. We plan to stay at either AF/DOD lodging or? What can we expect with min day advance reservations? We never know about the Lackland-Rmstein flight more than three days in advance. Comments? |
