Thanks, for passing this on. I've now added it to my list as an option for a place to stay enroute to see family in Florida.

I would say nothing much is within walking distance of the gate.

The Q itself is pretty far from the gate and there is at least one, maybe two fast food places right out the gate. Lots of things on down toward Capt. Anderson's area I call it.

A very good thing is that the traffic is light around the base compared to down into the tourist area.

Of all things....today when I got through with the first post I looked out the window and there was a big wedding going on and the guest were seated between the Main Deck and the water. I went out and made some photos. They were having the reception at the Main Deck.

So my wife and I and several other guests at the Q sort of crashed the wedding but not the reception.

The Main Deck is the club behind the Q.

What I called the bypass is 98. The name of the new shopping center is Pier Point. There is a recreation area mostly for children deep down in the place.

LE, thanks for the info. We have stayed at Tyndall and wondered about the NSA right in town. Is it walking distance to anything, like restaurants?

We are here now at the Gateway Inn.

When my wife first called the reservation number she was advised there was no room. I was also advised online there was no room.

Peggy called the base operator and got the local number and sure enough we got lodging for the exact days we wanted from Thursday to Sunday.

We have what I would call a mini suite in building 349 for $40.00 per day. It is on the water and we have very nice view from our window

There is a kitchen and a bar.

I am on the free WiFi now. There were three WiFis that came up and I picked the first one which showed the highest signal.

It was awfully slow so I tried the next one and it is running very good.

There is a small PX on base, no commissary that I now of but Tyndall is on the other side of Panama City.

Speaking of Tyndall....when we went on base the MP ran a scan on our cards and we were advised that we should do the Defense Biometric Identification but were not reqired to do it.

Later when we left the base we went right by the ID office so we stopped to see about getting it done.

No line, took less than 5 minutes.

Looks like this is good for only Central DBIDS and the bases are listed in the pamplet.

I just checked with the galley and retirees are allowed to eat only on holidays.

We really like this tiny base right here in the tourist area. It had been about 20 years since we have been to PC and had a hard time learning all the new overpasses and highways.

The bypass has a lot of new shopping areas and Peggy really like one of the new shopping centers. We had never seen one like it. Can not think of the name....maybe a local can advise.

Anyway, one more day but we will come back.

OH YES, we went on a tour out to Shell Island. We did not see any oil. HOWEVER we did see many boats that had been out there and they had an oily color to them especially the bows of the white boats.

Local paper said oil was found on Navarre (spelling) Beach.
