Shame on me, I thought it was for old folks also. The HK charges to make a local call! Any cheap hotel in Honolulu will; allow local calls at no charge. Seems like that is a little cheap on the part of the Hale Koa management. I an afford the call, it's just that it's seemingly unreasonable. |

I wasn't going to get suckered in again about the Hale Koa, but here I am. My wife and I stay at the HK primarily because of the location and convience. We have down sized from partial ocean view to moderate single bed. Having the room, adult pool,Point, Happy's, PX, bare foot, and beach right there without having to go back and forth to the room. The one thing that really burns me about the HK is an 0-10 only pays $10 more for the same room category that I do as an E-7. Would love someone to defend that!! Must be RHIP |

I will get on my soap box again and tell my opinion of the Hale Koa. It is not a cheap place to stay. I stayed there in January. My room rate was $118. Plus the cost of parking at the garage. Plus $9.00 perday to hook up my laptop in the room (they have no FREE Wi Fi like most of the other hotels). My nights cost ended up $140 for a basic room with NO view and it was very well used. The room was very worn. I also felt the BFB (while the location and atmosphere is 2nd to none) is expensive. The Hale Koa Exchange when compared to the other military exchanges in Hawaii, is high priced, probably just because you are in downtown Honolulu. Ok, I will shut up. It is just my opinion that the Hale Koa is not a good deal for military veterans. I guess the $39 rooms on a base/post have spoiled me. |

John, that only applies to active duty, NG and reserves. All of us old has beens can pony up the cash. If we want to stay a week, they will give the 7th day free. I like the Hale Koa but about 3 days was all I could take. |
