Funny thing about Barcelona is that it is about as far to Rota as it is to Ramstein. Doing a Google Earth ruler thing, it is about 600 miles to either. There are alot more flights to Hahn than there are to Jerez. Trouble is no more bus to Ramstein from Hahn. |

Bill, there have been quite a few discussions on this board about how best to get from Barcelona to Rota. I was just bringing up an alternative - not going to Rota at all, but rather to Naples. On the one hand Rota has more flights. On the other hand, however, the process is very simple. You are flying right into the same base used by the Navy for their AMC flights. If you have a lot of luggage or are otherwise infirm, Naples might work better for you. Just giving folks an alternative to the standard route. |

Go to"Ground Transportation Forum". There is a good discussion on how to get from Rota to Barcelona. You may be able to use some of the info working backwards from Barcelona to Rota |

Leland, you just keep on telling everyone to go to Naple, that way I won't have to worry while in Rota trying to get home. |

In Nov. 2009 we flew from Barcelona to Luxemborg on Luxe Air. Made arrangements to have the private shuttle service from Spangdahlem AFB pick us up (they waited over an hour for us, as the flight was delayed) they drove us directly to Spangdahlem lodging where we continued our travels in Germany. Leland, IMO that is a BRILLIANT idea! (Talk about "thinking outside the box" -- that is thinking outside the COUNTRY.) |

I had a thought (a rare enough event to warrant a new thread). If a cruise ends in Barcelona, don't overlook the possibility of a cheap flight to Naples. No trains or busses required - you are right where the flights leave from. I just checked www.whichflights.com and they said Vueling and others fly that route. Vueling is Euros 80 for one-way two weeks out, which is probably what you would wind up paying air/bus or train/bus to Rota. Just something else to consider. |
