Don't forget the "wall" at the yacht harbor (names and paintings of sailors who transit headed for the Caribbean) and for sure the fresh food market. Get a pineapple there, they are the appointed purveyer to the Queen.

Doug: How long will your trip be as that determines what suggestions I may have? If it's 2 weeks or so and you're covering all of those countries/distance, there's not much that I can suggest. If it's longer, then I could give you some constructive input.

Not much to see,we have used the small double decker bus they have near the port to see the island. More cows than people and lots of pineapples on this island. The ship will have a tour to a crater, I think it is, but unless it is a lovely day with lots of sunshine, you won't be able to see much we have been told. It is a nice little town, very walkable, also has the horse and carriage rides, that was nice and free wifi at the McDonalds along the water front and the local libary. Very clean free public restroom, underground by the McDonalds.

Ponta Delgada and Lajes are on two different islands. There are nine islands connected by air.

We were there on a cruise last year. We caught a taxi driver at the port to give us a tour for a flat price with another couple. He took us all around the area and sights and the price as reasonable I think $20 each. Nice tour.
