I've found that the internet service on cruise ships is not only costly but slow. |

Jan, we did have minutes on RCL, I had my netbook with me and used it in the cookie/coffee shop with luck. It was still slow. Lois keep saying "Jan said to go to the conference room around 2 a m and it will be quick." I too am a night owl, but not fond of wondering around the cruise ship late, by myself. Have a nice Mothers Day. |

Phyllis, we do the same thing in ports as you do. But you get some free minutes on the internet on RCL when you are repeat customers. I'm a night owl, so I'll go use the computer at about 2 a.m. and it works fast since no one else is there. Might work well if you get up really early too. |

When cruising, we head to the local libary in each port and use the system there. Most times it is free, but in Ireland last year we did have to pay for libary card, still much cheaper than the ships. |

The server aboard the RC Voyger was so slow it took it cost about $1/Email download. I was never able to send Email. They charged for time connected with the server, not for data transfer. I was afraid of using Skype. elf |

My husband and I plan to cruise aboard Holland America's Prinsendam, and I have read that Holland America blocks access to SKYPE. Last year, we cruised on a Carnival ship that said that SKYPE couldn't be used, and we had no trouble using it. Has anyone had experience using SKYPE or any other internet phone service aboard a Holland America ship? |
