Aloha Sam and Pat,
We will definitely try Dave's in Pearl City. We have to go to Hickam tomorrow so we will come right by that exit. We both love coffee ice cream so we will definitely try that one.
Hope we get to meet you Friday. We will have limited time as we will have our 3 year old grandson, but we will stop by the BFB.
Mahalo,
Greg & Bertie

We just cancelled a room at the Navy Lodge at Pearl for Thursday and Friday night. We were able to book a two bedroom apartment at Hickam for those nights. We hope to be coming in very late tomorrow night and knew it would be easier to get to Hickam lodging than Pearl that late at night.

We are staying at a hotel near the Charleton Air Force Base tonight hoping to get on a very early flight to McChord in the morning. McChord has a flight scheduled for Hickam later in the afternoon. If we make it to McChord and the Hickam flight doesn't work out, we will change plans and visit our daughter and family in Portland, Oregon. We are hoping that we will make it to Hickam tomorrow night though. We are looking forward to meeting everyone at the BFB on Friday night.

Sorry, Bob. I just saw your post.

We are already in the 5 Palms. If it weren't for the lack of an in suite facility, we would rather be at the Cabanas.

If anyone is interested, The two bedroom cabins (on the beach) at Barbers Point has a vacancy for 31 Jan through the 6th of February ($90.00 per night).

Aloha to all. After waiting at Travis in the rain for two days we got called for a C-17 ride, along with 48 others, to Hickam. It was raining in Honolulu when we arrived but was warm. We couldn't get a room at Hickam and are at the Aqua Waikiki Beachside until the 28th when we move to the Hale Koa. See you at the BFB. We will be there this afternoon in case anyone else is around.

If you were here years ago, you might remember that place. 850 Kamehameha Hwy. You might be able to look on line for directions,.If you like coffee, their kona coffee Ice Cream is great also. My favorite is green tea!
Hope you enjoy!

We're sitting at a table, on the lawn, next to the beach, listening to the surf, having our morning coffee at the Cabanas on Kaneohe. $53.00 a night.

WiFi reaches the beach. Username and password are on the key envelope.

Life is hard. Wonder what the "Po" folks are doing today?

No bath in the room is kinda inconvenient. You tend to wake up during the walk.

We made it to Hickam. Picked up our rental and drove to the Cabanas at Kaneohe. The Cabanas was the only place where we could find lodging on Sunday. We move over to the 5 Palms (TLF) tomorrow.

Our ride (KC-135) was configured as a med evac. In the rear were 16 airline like seats. We 10 Cat VI's took up 10 of them and crew took the rest. Comfortable ride. Kinda cool going up and down, but nice at cruise. Six hours flying time.

JD, if I am not mistaken the bus will only take you to Ridgmar Mall. It is a long walk from there along a very busy road, with no sidewalks. If anyone take the train/bus to the mall, I would than get a taxi, it will be safer.

LE, I did some checking and DART has a bus that goes to Union Station (Houston Street)downtown Dallas where you can caught the train to FW. You can go to DART.org and look for the trip plan to see if it will meet you needs

An example would have you leave Love Field on bus 39 to the St Paul Station (St Paul @ Bryan)where you would have to transfer to a train to Union Station. The entire trip is 38 minutes. The train (TRE)will take you the the Ft Worth Intermodal Transit Center on Jones Street. There is a bus that will get you close to the base but I can not get the FW transit site as of yet.

LE if you want to pay the price, call this guy, Kevin with Super Shuttle. Call him on his cel # and I think you will get a better price, he loves the military guys, will talk you ear off, and his driving may make you a bit nervous, if it is rush hour. His # 817-269-4528. We used his this spring to go from DFW to the base, it was $80 for the two of us.
He can not get on base, the CBQ is just a short walk from the gate, the terminal is may a mile or mile 1/2. If you want to go to the terminal when you get there, we just ask the gate gaurd to call a duty driver. They have always come to pick us up, however, I use my sweet little old lady charm to get this done, but they would do it anyway I think.

LE, I would think you can get a DART bus at Love Field that will take you to down town Dallas. You might check and see if there isn't a fast rail system train that goes from Dallas to FT. Worth. Good luck

Just may try to make it. Friends in Honolulu have invited me to stay with them.

I want to get to FW or N.I. for that flight on the 28th. Been to N.I. many times and know the area. Never been to FW.

Would fly into Love Field if I go to FW. I did read the How To info on local Dallas FW public transportation. It did not directly address going from Love Field to FW NAS.

I do know to buy the two zone pass and go to the a Ridgemar (?) Mall. But what do I get on at Love Field to start out?

Phil & Sandi and Carl & Gail (newbies) have reservations at Kaneohe for the 25th through the 1st. We're not sure if we'll stay there though.

We kinda have our sights set on one of the discounthotelshawaii dot com places or Pillilau.

We're keeping fingers crossed. Our trip starts with a car ride to Travis on Friday.

I did a count from the list of possible attendees. Looks like about 50 (I ran out of fingers and toes second time around). My wife and I will be catching a flight out of Souix City Gaurd base on Monday the 18th. We plan on staying thru the end of the month. We are staying at the MCB. We will be looking for red bandanas.

How many people are already there or are planning to arrive next week? We just found out about a flight from Charleston AFB to Hickam on Monday. We live only an hour and a half away so this opportunity may be too good to pass up. We probably won't be able to stay through the end of the month. We were just wondering how many would be available to get together at the BFB at 5:00 next week. Also, is there anyone else in the southeast planning to take this flight?

Phyllis, Linda and I arrived early last week. We couldn't pass up a direct flt from Elmendorf. We are staying at the Maile Sky Court. Thanks to Uncle Bud and Discount Hotels Hawaii. We got the room for $53 ($59.87 with tax). I can't compare it to Ford Island because we have not stayed there, but it is nicer than Bldg 1520 where we stayed the first three nights at Pearl for $50. We are happy with it, and it is a great location. It is an easy ten minute walk to the BFB. No need for a rental car -- the bus service here is great.

Thanks, Tomi. I realize that it won't be official, but it's better than nothing.

By the way, the weekend of the 23rd is a drill weekend at Travis. No rooms at the INN!!

I did get reservations for three days beginning on Monday (25th).

Still no luck with on-line reservations at Pearl Harbor.

Now you have a 'hard-copy' of your S/A request.

I just completed my "45 day" return sign-up at Kaneohe.

I completed it using their "on-line" form. It was easy but, I have no hard copy if there were to be a discussion.

Has anyone any experience, that you could share, about Kaneohe sign-ups?

Would you suggest a follow up phone call later today?

A quick look by my friend with a crystal ball is not too encouraging for flights out of NI during the last week in January.

Travis seems to be the departure point this year.

Good luck to all who want to go. I pray that we all make it.

Here's some info for going to Hawaii:..
If you can't get a room on a 'base', or don't want to stay on base, try looking on these web-sites for a room.. www.discounthotelshawaii.com or www.booking.com ..room rates at the 'Navy Lodge' are $85-113 & at the Hale Koa there $91-222.
Before leaving, or still at Travis, look at the Hawaii Sunday newspaper's on their web-sites..
'Star Bulletin'> www.starbulletin.com and 'Advertiser' at www.honoluluadvertiser.com ..both Sunday papers tells what's happening, what to do/see the next week.
Antway, hope the crowds not too big and the weather is in our favor.

OK, BFB attendee wannabees... an important step in the Space A process is "Sign-ups". It's time you started looking at your "going to" sign-ups.

Don't forget about waiting a while (how long you're going to stay) and signing up for the return at Hickam and Kaneohe.

Good luck to all and I can't wait to see some old friends and also to meet new ones.

Leonard,
Room reservations are contingent upon where you want to stay.

Military lodging typically depends on their occupancy rate. You'll need to call the respective lodging and ask. Civilian lodging reservations can probably be made now.

You can try some navy facilities at http://dodlodging.net . Air Force... you'll need to call. Army... WOW, they are expensive. Pillilau Army Recreation Center(s?) (PARC) isn't taking reservations until a week out from when you want to stay (they're renovating cabins). You'll have to call Bellows too.

I know that wasn't much help, but maybe it will get you started.

We hope to see you there.

I know I'm going to regret posting this info because I'll probably never find a free parking space near the Hale Koa again but here goes. In front of the Hale Koa on the beach you walk pass the Hilton Hawaiian Villege you will find a parking lot where you can park for FREE. I have been using it for years and it appears to be safe,at least, during the hours of 6AM until 9PM. It is at least as close as the parking garage where I think you'll pay eight dollars.

I started this thread so as to not clutter the important threads.

Philip, It is never too early to start a Space A planning session. As a matter of fact, now should be the time for thinking of "sign ups" for your BFB 2010 trip. Your out going sign ups should be done in about 2 weeks and you should also be thinking about when you'll return so that "return" sign ups can be planned.

I already have preliminary reservations in San Diego for our trip. I may make reservations elsewhere as time grows closer and I have more info.

The key to a successful space a trip is planning (and a lot of luck of course). Good luck and we hope to see you there.
