Don:

Anyone past 60 can get the shingles vaccine at a USAF Clinic. We got ours earlier this year at Fairchild.

Happy travels, John

That reminds me, I must get my shingles shot. In fact I went by the shot clinic today to get my swine flu shot, and was going to inquire about a shingles shot, but they closed for lunch, and forgot to go back. Will go in Friday when we go back to the base.

Hope Ron is feeling better. I had shingles once. don't fancy it again.

Here in the UK, yesterday on the national news, they said anyone over 70 can get a shingles shot, so if the base can't/won't give me one, I will get one downtown.

Becky, thanks for asking about Ron. It turns out that what we thought was an allergic reaction to medication was shingles! While we were waiting for a flight out in Charleston, he broke out with a rash on his face and near his eye. We are so thankful that three flights that we tried to get on were slipped back. Sometimes God's greatest blessings are unanswered prayers. As much as we love Hawaii, we would have both been miserable. He has been in a lot of pain but resting comfortably here at home.

If he is feeling better next week, we plan to take a road trip to south Florida. We hope to see all of you next year at the BFB.

Looks like we will miss you. We are going to try and get out on one of the Travis flights tomorrow.

Good luck,

We are now in Milwaukee. Milwaukee held their "by phone roll call" and assured us we were #1 on the list for Space-A. Just might pull this off, yet!

So sorry to hear of your medical difficulties, Ron. Hope everything turns out OK.

Ron, Well, being stuck in the St. Louis area, there are no long walks on the beach. More like quick dashes from the car to the restaurant because it is so darn cold!! We have declared a "cease fire" for now. We drove back home (Indpls area) this afternoon. I purchased one way Airtran tickets to Milwaukee, and will try for the Milwaukee 128 ARW's flight to Hickam on Saturday morning. So, I am stubbornly holding onto the same goal as you ... being at the BFB on Saturday evening!

Rebecca, we are in the same boat as you. We have been in Charleston for 2 days. Of course, Charleston in not a bad place to be stuck. We just got back from a long walk on the beach. A flight to McChord slipped yesterday and this morning. There is one scheduled to McChord this afternoon but will be too late for the Hickam flight from there.

Our plans now are to take a flight out to Travis in the morning and hope to get on the Travis flight to Hickam tomorrow night. We are still hoping to be at the BFB Saturay night. I can't remember is this is Plan D or E or F.

Looks like I put my cart before my horse. The Scott => McChord => Travis medivac took zero pax. Nothing going west until a Travis flight on Saturday.

What to do? ... We started from Indianapolis and drove to Milwaukee to catch Tuesday's flight to Travis. After getting all checked in, they cancelled the mission. Pax reps said it is only the second mission to be cancelled in the last two years. I knew there was a medivac flight coming through Scott on Wednesday, so we drove down to Scott; but the mission slipped 24 hours. No problem ... we found lodging and showed back up this morning. Found out a little bit ago that they are not taking passengers. I don't wanna go back home .... 6-12 inches of snow are on the way!

Ron, we might be. We are hoping to be on the Scott => McChord => Travis flight tomorrow. It is very tempting to get off at McChord and try for that Hickam flight. Here is my dilemna ....what if the flight gets cancelled? (That has already happened to us this week at Milwaukee). If we proceed to Travis, we at least have the "insurance" of a couple of Travis => Hickam flights on Friday. Any advice would be appreciated.

Becky

@Phyllis, Good point. However, it now seems that the itinerary for that trip has changed and the flight is going from Ft. Worth to North Island to K'Bay with 69 seats. Maybe that would be more usable. Schedule calls for departure from Ft Worth at 1100 hours and from NAS NI at 1300, both local times.
It appears that the earlier-projected Feb 3 flight from Hickam to Jacksonville and back to Ft Worth is no longer on the board.
Good luck.

Ben, I don't think I would chance this one. Last fall we took the flight from Ft. Worth, Willow Grove, Shannon and ended in that Crete. Well it look good, folks had boarding pass in hard for the entire trip, but at the last minute no body got past Willow Grove. Nobody would love to get a seat more than me from Ft. Worth over to the BFB, but this one just has to many places to get bumped.

Check out the NAS Ft Worth site (https://www.cnic.navy.mil/navycni/idcplg?IdcService=SS_GET_PAGE&siteId=FortWorth &nodeId=8193&siteRelativeUrl=/MilitaryServices/PassengerTerminal/FlightSchedule/ index.htm) for details. C-40 from Jacksonville/Willow Grove/Point Mugu to Kay Bay tentative for 1/28 w/ 51 seats. Also, C-40 HIK to Jacksonville on 2/3 w/ 58 seats. Hope this pans out for some of you who want to warm your toes at the Barefoot Bar.
