Guys & Gals: Looks like the planning for the is underway. It appears those interested in the S&S 2010 event have voted for Oct 7 to 11. If you have not "voted" or voiced an opinion about the dates for the S&S lets hear from you. Space A poster Rob-in Sig replied to my e-mail with good information. He said plenty to do in Sicily & on base. He will help us when possible. Also commented that Air Malta out of Frankfurt to Sig good alternative if Space A not available. Robert wrote ITT office always has tours etc. Fishing, golf gear etc. rental available. Plenty of nice places for our S&S dinner, get togethers. I am waiting for the name of the ITT rep, phone # & e-mail address of the rep that can work with us planning/scheduling events, tours, civilain lodging off base etc. I will contact ITT & will post any info as I receive it. If anyone else aready has up to date information on the ITT office or Sig. let us know. BillMac |

Was in Sigonella about two weeks ago. Be advised that the Pax terminal there is run by an Italian civilian contractor company. There are no GIs behind the desk or on the phones. Info. was sketchy. One could call the pax terminal three times in one morning and get three different answers. There is a screen in the terminal, but one has to be persistent in regard to where you want to go, and ask pointed questions. |

Barbara and I had been looking forward to the S&S Sig as one of our major trips for 2010, and I think 7-11 OCT are probably the best dates, but I just received word that my 50tieth La Grange High School Reunion, Class of 1960, is scheduled for 9 Oct. You may have heard of my hometown, La Grange, TX. (Hint: ZZ Top, Burt Reynolds, Dolly Parton- No, they were not classmates). Barbara’s 50tieth is also this year, and we have always enjoyed seeing our classmates at these reunions every 5 years. My graduating class had 67 seniors, and surprisingly, it seems like we are a hearty bunch since we have lost only two classmates. On our last trip to Sig, we rented a car near the PAX terminal on NAS II and took day trips to Catania, Syracuse (the birthplace of Archimedes), and Taormina (a top holiday coastal resort on Sicily). You may want to consider these day trips for the group at S&S Sig. |

Any time in early October sounds great to us. Sandra was stationed at the US Naval Hospital Naples and has relatives in Sicily. I wasn't stationed in Italy but we both love visiting there. We plan to be in that area for several weeks starting late September. Count us in! Our only concern is that base services may be closed for Columbus Day weekend and Monday October 11th Federal holiday. Even though Columbus was an Italian, I doubt the Italians celebrate this day. Thanks you Dirk for the 2010 S&S TOPICS and to David for getting the ball rolling. Count me & Peggy in for Oct. 7 to 11th. Let's keep the chat going so that we can put together a plan for side trips, events etc. We visted Malta in 2000 & I would like to go back for a visit. I beleive that there is a ferry from Catania to Malta. If there is enough interest in a guided tour perhaps the ITT office will arrange one for us or put us in contact with a local travel agent. |

Will the NAS Sigonella Pax have any flights during the proposed S&S? Columbus Day is the 12th, Tuesday. Will someone on base check it out? |

October 7 to Oct 11 sounds like a better time. Maybe flights would be more plentiful after the start of the fiscal year. We were planning to go to Germany after Sept 15 and I would love to meet all you experienced spats. Carole |

Gang, We now have a separate Topic for S&S 2010. There is some discussion on setting the appropriate date. Initially, there was a feeling early October would be better, as SpaceA flights would be easier with the start of the fiscal year. The date was pushed forward to October 1, as Uncle Bud was going to spear head the reunion. He is no longer attending. So, please chime in with your suggestions. A factor to consider is the Patriot Express from Norfolk. Another factor is availability of side trips and local events. My vote is October 7 to 11. David |
