If all goes as scheduled, my husband and I will have 1 day in Bora Bora, and 1 in Papaeete, come February, as part of a much longer cruise. The guidebooks I've been reading claim there are many grades of black pearls and that tourists are offered them by street vendors (quality unvouched for) as well as in reputable shops. Men there are said to frequently wear just one large pearl on a chain or thong around their neck. I don't know about any price differentials, especially for the "good" ones--if there's an international standard I would not be susprised if the locals try to stick to it. But there's always bargaining! Personally, I intend to LOOK but not buy...we are no longer in an acquisition mode for almost anything. Just trying to get the kids to come get the rest of their Stuff out of the basement. |

Are the Tahitian black pearls less expensive in Tahiti? Seems like it would be a thrill to find out! |

I've been looking at this website from the official Tahiti tourisme: http://www.tahiti-tourisme.com/planner/links.asp As SPATs, we are very fortunate for the many flights to Honolulu, Hawai'i, at Hickam AFB. Has anyone flown or cruised from Hawai'i to Tahiti? What was the Tahitian cruise like?
