I think a person may not even have to be a USAA member to use some services such as banking, investments and perhaps even credit cards--these are "profit centers" for the company.

John, it was my understanding that anyone who belongs to USAA can use all the services. USAA has opened up to both enlisted and dependents now. Or so I thought. All my kids have accounts and are able to use all the services.

Go to the USAA website and call the Explore travel agency by following the links at USAA's site. Hope it works out for you.

Larry,

Check with USAA re: insurance. I thought a few years ago insurance was opened up to EMs. Just trying to help.

Ken - can an Enlisted type person use USAA for travel. They won't let us use the insurance - but I use them for banking, credit card and even use them for my home loan.

We just cancelled the cruise. The euro/dollar exchange rate is only going to get worse. Much as we like europe, we will stay in the states this year :-(

You might consider getting a Eurail Flexi pass. Check out my favorite European train expert, Rick Steves. His site explains train travel in Europe in very simple terms.

Linda and I will be in rm 9222 on this cruise. We booked through USAA to obtain their $150.00 discount and also got lower travel insurance rates.

By using USAA we got credited for a free 5 night luxury vacation in Cabo. (we have to pay airfare, but the resort stay is free). So now we have another adventure to look forward to next year.

Also, by using USAA all purchases are given points that add up to future savings on other travel / cruises. Seems like a good deal, but this is our first time using it so time will tell how it all comes out in the wash. :-)

To catch the ship, we'll leave Austin the day before on Continental and fly into Ft Lauderdale. The one way tickets are $163.00 pp. We'll catch the ship the following day on 30 Mar, 08.

We'll be spending a couple days in Amsterdam after the cruise. Holland has lots of spring parades and the Keukenhof should be in full bloom when the ship docks in the middle of April.

After that we'll take a train to Germany and catch something heading back to the states. Hopefully to TX, but otherwise to the east coast and catch a one way flight from there back home to Austin.

Jim -- did you book it through Royal Caribbean for the $200 credit, or a website or travel agent?

Autoeurope quotes a one way compact rental car ams to fra for 140e and no drop off charge. May be able to team up and get a larger car for the trip.

Very seriously considering this trip. I found an ICE train number 223 from Amsterdam to Frankfurt, 2d class, for 101 euro each , leaving ams at 0645 arriving in fra at 1025. Also checking flights ams to fra so that we can return Space A after visiting family in Germany.

Ken, we're tempted. Very tempted. Will seriously consider this. We loved our Splendour cruise, too. But I like the ports on this one.

Ken, what't the plan for getting back? Will you try for a flight from Germany, England, Italy or just where ever you see one.

Looks like the wife and I have decided to do the 14 night cruise from Ft. Lauderdale to Amsterdam, Holland on Mar 30th of 2008. Royal Caribbean, Jewel of the Seas.

This years cruise from Galveston to Barcelona left us wanting MORE! :-)

Anyone else planning this adventure?
