Eileen, Just a thought, if they will accept retired airline employees booking, you mite want to asked about USAF Airlines. Some booking groups include the USAF as an Airline!

Al, We are aware of the Dargal website and they have some outstanding fares, however, not all of their fares are available to the millitary - only to airline employees. We identified a trip going around the tip of South America at an outstanding price. When we called they told us the price was only available to airline employees. It is certainly a good idea to monitor their website.

Dalton, we have cruise on all the lines you talked about. We like Holland American, they are still the old world kind of cruise. Dress for dinner, lots of wood as trim on the ships. We haven't used them in about 4 years, since we try to space a to and from the ship now, we go as light on the luggage as possible. We did our first Carnival Cruise last February. It was very nice, we were not sure what we would get, but I think the time of year has lots to do with that line. If you pick a time that school is out, I think you would have lots of kids, due to the lower price of the cruise.

Hi all : A good site that I have found in addition to Vacations to Go is Dargal.com. If you are military reiree or even a vet, you are allowed the same prices as airline employees and cruiseline employees. We returned from a 13 day cruise in May and paid only $299 before tax and that was the Independence of the Seas, the largest RCCL ship at the time. I am retired but my friend is a vet of 5 years and he just had to send in a copy of his 214 and they gave him the same rate. I find these deals always come up in April and May and my wife and I try to go transatlantic almost every year. I have found Celebrity to be the best as far as food goes but RCCL had a lot of amenities like the flowrider (for surfing or Boogie Boarding,) Ice Skating, Ice shows. A parade and party every night on the promenade deck if you chose to go and many other amenities. The new Oasis is coming out soon and will be sailing the Carribean in December . It will have a Central Park as well as a zip line across the top of the ship. Already prices have dropped from 1600 to 729. I expect they will drop it even more because the ship holds over 5000 people and they will probably want to fill it up. I have not tried Holland America but have found Carnival to be a real party ship. Mostly young teens and 20 -30 year olds. Norweigan i found was kind of the bottom of the barrel so far but other people may feel different depending on what is important to them. I have not tried USAA but on vacations to go I have found that not all ships have military discounts but the over 55 is usually just as good a discount anyway. Dalton

I use vacationstogo.com. In checking prices under the 'discounts' it's best to check all the discount rates and then compare.
I find that their rates are usually lower than most other cruise sites.
We're going on a cruise this May to the MED on Royal Crib ship Brilliance of the Seas. 11 days out of Barcelona, Spain.
Anyone else going on that one?

Here is a good deal:

$299 -- 11-Night Transatlantic Cruise

Source: Cruise.com

For $300 more, you can get a one way flight back to Miami, or go space A of course.

Ed: what agency or web cite gave you the best price and how much lower was it than the lowest on www.vacationstogo.com for equal accomodations with the military discount? Is this fare for 2 people or were you booked alone? Thanks

Phyllis: I chkd several cruise web sites before choosing a price received from the fellow I crew for on his sailboat; he is a cruise specialist & gave me the best price by far as well as a 5 category cabin upgrade. Lots of sunscreen will be in my chkd bag.

I think before booking a cruise it is a good idea to check out vacationtogo.com and some of the other web sites, give you a feel for the price. Ed, be sure to pack the sun screen for the cruise, you'll need it.
