Princess Cruises from Alaska - Great ...

If cruising round-trip then it doesn't matter which side you are on. But if going by ship only one way, try to get a cabin on the mainland (east) side of the ship, for best views. That would be on the starboard side if northbound, or the port side if southbound. Many years ago a travel agent told me that if you are going to do some land travel in Alaska, it is much better to fly all the way up (to Anchorage or Fairbanks--both have good air connections from the Lower 48 AND the time is change in your favor) and then work your way down, ending up with a southbound Inside Passage cruise. We took his advice and are glad we did--we spoke with some folks who took the cruise northbound FIRST and now regretted it because (1) they were exhausted from the pace of the land travel, and (2) flying back home to the Lower 48 from Fairbanks or Anchorage was going to be a FAR more difficult and lengthy process than if just returning from a cruise ending in Vancouver or Seattle.   James Gordon New member Username: Oldsalt23 Post Number: 1 Registered: 07-2008 Posted on Friday, July 11, 2008 - 09:13 pm:    I just came off a Princess Alaska cruise and Denali Park trip. In my opinion if you want a view from your stateroom get one with a balcony. Well worth the few extra bucks. On the Vacations-To-Go website, found a great price on a room but when i called the folks they determined that room is behind the lifeboats. Any ideas on what deck is good for an oceanview(unobstucted)This would be on the Princess Saphire ship. Another Travel agency that handles Military (Interliner) discounts is Dargal in Kewlona British Columbia. There were neat military R&R cottages there. Well worth the stay also.There were some local military sponsored fishing and wild life viewing trips. The train was very scenic. It was awhile ago. While on the trip Princess Diana was in the car wreck. Our meeting place for the cruise is not Whittier, it is the community center type place in downtown Anchorage. That is where all the cruise ship passengers meet to board.
