well we all made it across the big pond. it was a great trip, report when i get back home. Jim & I met Loist & Gerald in line at Galveston, than met up with Doris & John once on board. We also met a few more folks that were new to space a, so told them about the site and tried to help.

Hi Doris, Yes, we are on Caribe deck also. We looked at this cruise so long we almost let it sell out. Oh well, better late than never. We'll be looking forward to seeing you all on board.

Hi, Lois, John and I will be looking forward to meeting you and Gerald, too. Looks like we'll have a small party of Space-A'ers on board. Six of us, at least. Which deck are you on? We're on Caribe deck and so are Phyllis and Jim.

We just booked the 19 day cruise from Galveston to Rome. We had been looking at it for a long time and finally decided between it and the one to Lisbon, Portugal. Hope to meet some other space A-ers on the ship. Jerry and Lois from Lorena, TX

As an alternative, consider going space-a to whatever U.S. base you can get to, and then flying commercial the rest of the way. I say this because from occasional scanning of various East Coast terminals' flight schedules, plus my intimate acquaintance (;-D) with Andrews' usual routes, there are relatively few flights into Texas from this area so you might spend a lot of time and money waiting for a "free" one, or find yourself zig-zagging across the country for several days, incurring hotel and meal costs. Southwest Airlines (from BWI for the DC area, plus many other commercial airports around the country) has decent walk-up fares (especially if you are a "senior") and other last-minute good deals might be available either on the various airlines' websites or through Priceline, etc.

Lyndel what ship are you taking. To get back to Texas, I would use Norfolk/Oceana, Dover, Willow Grove, Anrews and McGuire.

For cruise we are taking in April,19 days, I booked with AAdvantage Cruise, part of American Airlines. We got a good price, balcony room for $3882.25,for two including $200 for travel insurance. The reason I picked this site was they also gave us 20,000 air miles on American. the agent I used was named Fallon @800-647-6433 ext.35706. This is the second time I have use them, and both time got lots of air miles for doing it and a good price.

We have consistently been given the best price on cruises by Cruise Value Center (http://www.mycruisevalue.com/v3/index.asp). They don't seem to post the rates on their website--you have to speak with an agent. They have all the same last minute or repositioning deals as other travel agencies but if you tell them exactly which cruise you want and that price is very important to you they somehow come up with the lowest. (I suppose they are cutting their commission.) They are a full service agency even with the lower price, too.

Check out www.crucon.com for some super deals. They have military specials on Carnival and really cheap cruises on other lines too. We just booked a 12 night repositioning cruise on Celebrity Lines Century, Ft. Lauderdale to Barcelona with stops at Azores, Lisbon and Cadiz. The prices are $550pp inside and $750pp outside--for 12 nights!

I have no interest in this company, just thought to pass on some good deals.

Right on, Jim. We took a 17 day repositioning cruise from Ft. Lauderdale to Genoa, Italy for considerably less than $100/day. Had a great time and met with another space-a'er Mike and Pam Fenn on the ship. There are some super deals to be had on these cruises. Some of the places I have looked are: www.travelzoo.com, www.go-today.com and dont forget your local travel agent. Mike Fenn got his on www.skyauction.com. As an old ship driver I would always choose to sail but nobody has space-a afloat.

For those of you who aren't big fans of the typical 7-day cruises, give thought to a re-positioning cruise. Each year the cruise companies take their ships out of the warmer waters and re-position them so they can cruise to the colder water ports. Then later, as the cold weather approaches, they send them back to the warmer waters. This year we took a 15-day cruise out of San Juan, ending up in Dover, England, and there is all the difference in the world between a shorter cruise and one of the longer ones. Also, the trans-oceanic cruises are very enjoyable. Finally, if you stay on top of the computer search and book early you can get some amazing bargins. Give it some thought. Jim Bagley
