It is our experience, also, that there are good bargains to be had on cruises during Thanksgiving week. We have spent one on the old Crystal Harmony,(most incredible display of food I've ever seen in my life!),and one on the Golden Princess; both itineraries to Mexico. And neither had turkey and stuffing that tasted like home made, but we still had a nice time. |

Almost 30 years ago we went on our first cruise on the Friday after Thanksgiving. The price knocked our soxs off (7 days for 350pp) From what I've learned over the years this is a very tough time of years for the cruise lines to fill cabins and as such they must cut prices big times. |

Several years back we made a last-minute booking for a Thanksgiving week cruise (on Celebrity) and were surprised at the number of children (up through teens) aboard. It seems their parents had just taken them out of school for the 3 days that week that would not be official holidays. There was quite a bit of late evening noise from groups running up and down in the hallways, but during the day they seemed to be pretty well entertained in self-contained spaces and we did have all-adults at our dining table. However, the most "interesting" part of the week was the Thanksgiving Dinner itself, produced by continental-cuisine-trained menu planners and chefs struggling to think and cook like American-heartland-grandmothers, and not quite succeeding! We both still chuckle while recalling the results--perfectly tasty but NOT really what we're used to on that day even though we did select the turkey and pumpkin pie options. |
