Generally, the cruise ship has arranged for shuttle bus service to cover the 1 mile distance from pierside to the village of Civitaveccia.
HOWEVER, as a strong believer in public transport, why not just take the train between Roma Termini and Civitaveccia's train station. A taxi between the town train station and vsl would run no more than 25euros.
OR....it's a simple matter to WALK to the ship also. BTW, Civitaveccia offers direct access prior to/after your cruise to Cinque Terre, of Rick Steves fame, a train ride of just a few hours north up the coast.

Doris, my boss has done the Rome cruises many times. I think, they always take the train to Civitavecchia. Unfortunately, he is out of town until Tuesday. I will be glad to confirm with him when he returns and let you know.

Doris, I check the rate for service with the ship from the airport and it is $160 each round trip, than I looked at the web site Dinotars and they want $170 one way for 2, so in looks like the ship is the best bet.

Phyllis, it's an 11-day cruise with Holland America on the Noordam, their newest ship. One of their stops is in Monaco and John has always wanted to gamble at Monte Carlo. VacationstoGo gave us a 10% discount certificate for a problem we had with one of their agents in planning for our last cruise so that brings the price down considerably.

Dinotars: thanks for the link, but what makes you think we can afford a limo? <grin> Who knows, their prices might be comparable to a common ordinary taxi.

John D: yes, I knew that Mary had transferred to Korea, but she knows so much about Italy, I thought she might have an answer for me. Maybe I'll just email her since I doubt if she has much time for the board.

Thanks,everybody.

Thinking of taking a cruise that departs from and returns to Rome (Civitavecchia). I've heard the cab fare between the port of Civ. and the airport is $100.00. Has anyone done this? We would be flying commrcial at least one way if not both.

Mary Obermite, where are you?
