And Barnes and Noble reduced the Nook from $259 to $199 as well as announcing a new Nook with Wi-Fi but no 3G access for $149. |

We have been researching the ereaders, too. One thing that Nook offers that no other does, is the removable battery. If you have need for a new battery you don't have to send the whole reader to have it replaced. So if you want to have a spare when you go overseas, you don't have to worry about charging. Also, you can upload ebooks at B&N. We stopped in Borders the other day and they are featuring KOBO which will have an upgrade sometime in June. Will come uploaded with 100 books....could not say what they would be. Will be interesting to see how it compares with the others. If anyone has other points on other ereaders, let us know, because we are still shopping. |

I recently decided to upgrade my Kindle but, on the way to Amazon, I stopped by Barnes and Noble and a demo was starting on the Nook. Long story short, I was impressed and bought it at $259 which is the same price as the Kindle is now. When I bought mine it was $350. The reading screen is basically the same although the Nook offers several fonts and more sizes than the Kindle. A color touch screen is below the reading screen on the Nook. The array gives you quick access to wifi hot spots, the web,the last page read, the Nook store, your library, stored music and to two games, Sudoku and chess. One major difference is that the Nook keyboard is built in on the touch screen and is a bit more difficult to get used to, especially if you have stubby fingers. Experts say a stylus might be on the way. Essentially, buying a book is handled the same way as Kindle. I have noticed that B&N seemingly has bit better selection and priced about the same. The download process is the same. Going on line is relatively quick but I believe the Kindle might be a bit better. The Nook can send and receive email but you have to go on line, then find your ISP and connect that way. Looking at websites on the Nook requires looking at a portion of the site at a time which is a bit annoying. The one thing the Nook does not have that the Kindle does is a cover. Stores will get them slowly but they will be sold as separate items. I purchased mine on line and received additional cords as well as a car charger thrown in. So far I do like it. |
