McChord has one other "hot spot" for Wifi that I was aware of, and that is in the BX food court. You have to have your own machine. I have not checked it out to see if it is still operating. |

We were at McChord overnight on Thursday waiting for a flight out and stayed at the Evergreen Inn. We were able to use the computers at the business center at the lodge. I did notice that the computers were down at the terminal. Thanks for the explanation. |

Today, I visited the McChord Library and was greeted by a large signs at the entrance indicating all computer were down, no email, no internet and no printing! In talking to the clerk they said they had been out of the internet business for about a week. Seem the Base Comm Sqdn objected to the unrestricted connecting link to the internet via comcast. Seems this ban applies also to all internet service provided by the base through the Services Sqdn, i.e. Library, Combined Club, and the CDC. After visiting the passenger terminal, I find the ban also extends to their business center, both computers in the terminal were off line. The pax rep told me unofficially that Comm found too many retirees, coming over to the terminal to surf porn. On the QT, he told me the wifi link in the terminal is still up, so if you have your own laptop you are good to go. Apparently, Comm is trying to regulate and renegotiate usage of various public links provided by base computers. Stand by for further developments. |
