Asus is coming out with a "pad" of their own. If you're not in a hurry, I would wait for the next generation of iPad or check other manufacturers who will be producing their own competing products.

Our last trip was half wifi and half network connection. Also being old fashion we like to type emails, etc. on a key board.

Netbook is cheaper and has more use than iPad. I see iPad as a status symbol only. I mean if you only have $500, are you going to buy a very good netbook or you going to get an entry level iPad?

But if you already have a netbook and some money to burn then yes iPad is nice.

I did use it on the ship and it was fine. The ships are soooooooooooo slow that I only use the free minutes I have. When we were in port, we would go to a local free place to use it.

Phyllis,
I think you said on the board that you cruised across the atlantic this spring. Did you use the netbook on the crossing? How did it work on the ship?

I use WWAN all the time now. It is a notebook, HP Mini, 11 G memory disk. Can come a hard-drive. The service is $60 a month for 5 G of use. Was selling for $100 as a promotional last month. Never have I gone more than 1.2 G during a month period of time.
When Verizon Wireless is not avaiable, I use WiFi.
I don't even carry around a connection cable.

I was about to buy a netbook but I looked at an iPad and they are nice!
The one problem I see with the iPad is no network plug. On your last trip did you netbook folks use only wifi or did you need to plug into a network conection? A work around is a portable router but that is one more thing to pack.
