Greetings, Martin: A good place to start is this website...http://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/get-service-records.ht ml

Here is another way of doing it...http://www.archives.gov/veterans/evetrecs/index.html

The surviving brother can apply to receive a complete copy of whatever permanent records are maintained on the deceased veteran if he is next-of-kin.

There must be an attorney connected with the estate.Have him take the appropriate measures to search for any will which may have been executed
by the deceased.

A neighbor of mine died about a year ago apparently intestate.
He was a Vietnam vet.
Does anybody know if the Army would have kept a copy of the will we all had to make before we went there? I was thinking maybe (I know it is a stretch) it might be in his permanent file somewhere in storage.
Needless to say a "battle royale" has erupted amongst his surviving brother and half sister.

Thoughts?
