I've had an AKO address since 1996, active and retired. The problem encountered is with attachments or URL links. About two (2) years ago AKO security concerns began blocking access to same most of the time. As a result I have moved most of my subscriptions to .com, .gov, and .org newsletters, etc to my commercial ISP. |

Ben: I am retired USAF (and the individual Leland referred to). The only way I could get a .mil account was to have my son (AD USArmy) add me as a "family member" at www.us.army.mil. I now have my own us.army.mil account, which has to be reauthorized/reconfirmed by my son every six months. It does seem strange for a USAFer, but I appreciate having the .mil account. Happy travels, John |

Oh, I forget to provide the process if you are retired Army. Go to www.us.army.mil, accept the security warning, then click on "new user" - "register without a CAC". |

Each service runs their own IT. Army retirees can get an account at AKO (Army Knowledge Online) and that, in turn, gets you a dot-army-dot-mil address. Family members of soldiers can also get an account - one member of this board reported he got one on the basis of his son being in the Army. Why the other services won't fund something like that - you'll have to ask them. |

It depends on which service you retired from. Army, yes. Others, no. |

I am sure this has come up before on this forum, but I will ask the question anyway. Is it possible for a retiree to get access to .mil, or, better yet. an email account at .mil? If so, what is the process? |
