Fort Monmouth, NJ lodging is 3/4 of a mile from NJ Transit's Little Silver Station. Currently the fare is $10.50 round trip to mid-town Manhattan for seniors or military.
NWS Earle in Colts Neck, NJ also has lodging but is further a way from mass transit.
Don't forget about the USO in the Port Authority building at 41st Street and 8th Avenue.

Since you don't care about luxury, I would look into the Soldier's Sailors Marines Airmen's Club, especially if your kids are between 3-14. Then they are only $10 per person.

Very clean, comfortable, & the location can't be beat.
As for Priceline, you can email me privately your dates, & I can see what hotels are being had for what price on those dates.

Hello. The family and I are thinking about heading to NYC for a few days this summer (we will drive from Western PA). Anyway, originally I had thought about staying at Ft. Hamilton or Wadsworth, if they are available. Being summer, I fear that Hamilton and Wadsworth will be full, so I am looking at alternatives.

We will likely spend most days in the city, and think of a hotel as a place to sleep and little more. We certaintly don't care about luxury. We want inexpensive, safe, and somewhat convenient (although we don't mind taking ferries or subways to get to the city). Does anyone have any suggestions about lodging? I know that bidding on priceline has been sugested before, but I have never bid on a hotel before, so any assitance in that department would be helpful also.

Also- any other pointers would be helpful. Thanks!

Inga
