I have done the trip by train, by bus and by plane. The train is an excellant option but takes about 50 hours if you do the sightseeing trip-leaves Singapore at 0745 arrives KL about 1400. Tour KL until 2000 then take the overnight sleeper to Butterworth arriving at 0600. Spend the morning in Georgetown/Penang Island then the overnight sleeper train to Bangkok leaving Butterworth at around 1400 arriving sometime between 0900 and noon the next day. The trains are clean and the food is good. But it is a slow trip. Fares/schedules for the Malyasian portion at http://www.ktmb.com.my/

The bus is faster and cheaper with layover at Hat Yai. Not recommended if you want to sightsee.

My wife and I are thinking about going Space A from Clark to Singapore. Does anyone have any information on the train from Singapore to Bangkok including the WEB Site, train schedule, total time from Singapore to Bangkok, other pertinent information etc. Does anyone have information on unusual Space Available Flights in Asia such as regularly scheduled embassy runs etc. Also, can retirees go Space Available to Thailand now?
