where is the best place to book flights back to the USA for plan B if you cannot get a space a flight back? Is there still travel agents on Base? Or should you go to town? There use to be a travel agent at Ramstien Terminal. She gave me the best deal for a flight back to the USA when I was stuck. It was a German Airline for around $350 one way. This was years ago. |

For years I have used a variety of ways to get great prices. A travel agent advised years ago to download Sidestep. Whenever you type in a carrier or a cheap air site, Sidestep pops up on the side and, as you begin to receive prices from others, it begins working as well. Always has the best prices. Try it. |

Jet Blue does not charge for the first checked bag up to 50lbs nor for one carry on bag. They don't fly everywhere but have good prices. David Haynes |

Jet Blue and Air Tran are two discount carriers that I know about. There could be others. Of course, some discount carriers might not originate or fly to the place you want to fly to. Happy Travels |

Start with Kayak which gives you broad coverage for links to other websites (Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz, etc.). You can compare prices and schedules for the major airlines and many of the minor and discount airlines. When you find the best choices for your schedule, then go to the web pages of those specific airlines to see if you can get a better deal. Some airlines give a discount for booking directly with them -- I guess they are giving you part of the fee they would pay to an agent for a booking. Then check the Southwest webpage because they are not covered by the search websites. There may be other discount airlines as well, but I don't know about them. If anyone does, I'll appreciate knowing it. |

www.airfarewatchdog.com and Southwest Airlines' Ding! service have been extremely kind to me in the past by alerting me to sudden drops in airfares to destinations I've pre-selected when registering with them. Otherwise, I've found the carriers themselves to be the best sources for the lowest fares on their routes, especially if you have some flexibility with your travel dates. When the stars are aligned and the gods be smiling' upon you, nothing beats Space-A!!! |

I always do my airline reservations directly with the carrier and believe you can get cheaper fares. I'm referring mostly to AA, USAIR, Iberia, but have checked others as well. Never seem to find cheaper fares with United, Delta and Continental. Happy travels! |

Depends. Sometimes the main search sites show the airline site as cheapest. Use Orbitz and Kayak and that should give you the majority of purchase options. If you are flexible you can chance a bid on Priceline. |

Hi Gary, I looked and looked at travel sites for tickets to Australia this summer, but finally just called Qantas and got screaming deals. I think it just depends on how hard you want to look for that cherry of a deal! I like expedia for flights in the US, as long as you remember there are several budget airlines that don't use any of these sites. |

What is the best site to buy tickets on line? Is it best to go through the airline carrier? |
