The procedure can vary depending on local force protection conditions. Contact the location directly for info based on your specific situation and let's not get into location specifics here.

Apparently the policy is different overseas. I was at Ramstein in April, and again in May. In April I had to get to the front gate to escort the German citizen picking my wife and I up. It didn't work because his Id was expired, and he didn't have his passport with him. So my wife had to lug our baggage to the front gate, luckily by shuttle bus.

In May, the German driver took us back to Ramstein. This time he had proper id, so he was able to take us to our quarters reserved on base. But then I had to escort him back to the west gate, and I had to walk back in the pouring rain. But luckily I only had to walk from the gate to the Billeting front desk and they provided transportation to me to bldg 303.

ditto on Tommy's method.

When SPATing solo, I hoof it to the front gate w/ backpack to save time (I'm a PT nut). When SPATing as a couple, my wife watches our bags, I hoof it to the gate and ride back to the terminal.

Both methods saves my ride the hassle of finding the PAX terminal (often for the first time...in the dark).

Jared,

They may have a "bus" for reserve weekends. But not per say a regular shuttle type bus.

This is a ANG base. So, does not have what most bases have.

To get there:

(off the top of my memory -- so hope this is correct):
from I-270 south, take Alum Creek Road exit 49 south to Rickenbacker IAP. Also accessible off US 23 south onto OH-317 east.

ANG base is clearly marked (even on I-270).
(unless the sign has blown away again which it did three years ago when we had a wind storm 60+ mph winds here)

121st ARW, 7370 Minuteman Way, Columbus, Ohio 43217

Commerical: 614-492-4468 Police for base: 492-4321

Head on I-270 to IAP. You will see signs for ANG Base. When entering the former AB area, keep bearing to your right. Go around road.

To be honest, you can't miss the place.

At North Island NAS my daughter could not get on base to pick us up at the terminal so we lugged our luggage to the front gate to meet her. Next time I will walk to the front gate and leave the wife and luggage at the terminal. I will then drive my daughter's car using my ID to get on the base and go to the terminal and retrieve the wife and luggage.

Never met a base I didin't like, or that didn't have a PASS & ID office just outside or very near to the main gate. Show license, registration and insurance card and get a one-day pass. Works for my family/friends every time.

I doubt if Rickenbacker has a shuttle (or much else). Why not call the folks there and ask them their procedure for access for non-military folks? Direct info from the horses mouth is hard to beat!

Earl, do you know if Rickenbacker has any shuttles on base? I know its a reserve base so I am sure they are limited. Thank you!

Space-a lands on the reserve side of Rickenbacker.

FYI: other bases may have different procedures for nonmilitary to pick you up.

i.e. at WP you would have to meet them at the gate.

thanks Allison! We are going to be flying into Rickenbacker, in Columbus OH. Not even sure if space a lands on the actual base or not. I was told they wouldn't get on, so thank you.

My mom has come on multiple times to pick me up. Usually all that has to be done is a call from the terminal to the front gate from a passenger rep. saying yes we have this person.

The only paperwork she's ever had to show was Insurance and License.

Can you please tell me how a non military member can come on base to pick us up? We would like to not have to walk a mile with luggage and 2 kids in tow. :-) Do they need special paperwork? Thanks
Susan
