Looking at a couple of my receipts 5/6/10 at the Best Western in Karlsruhe the exchange rate was 1.2526. For the Golden Adler in Appenzell, Switzerland the US dollar was CHF 1.1199. I spent down and left my Euros in the jar at the Ramstein USO |

My bank here in a small town screwed up. I stopped today ad the quote was entirely different. If I wanted to buy it was $1.28. To sell Euros I would receive $1.129. Sorry for the rush. |

Most major commercial airports have a desk where you can recover the VAT that you paid as well as a desk/cage where you can redeem Euro's for dollars. I try to spend down my Euro's but often wind up with a few and or change. Never found a place at Ramstein where you can actually get rid of them. Maybe the front desk of the hotel...not sure. Also never really found a place at Ramstein where you can turn in your VAT forms that is in proximity to the PAX. Maybe somebody knows. Would like to hear what you do? |

I'm heading for Rota tomorrow (hopefully) and will enjoy the fruits of the weakening euro and trust it continues. If it touches around $1.10 I will probably buy a pocketful in anticipation of two trips this fall. |

Let me know when the rate falls to 1 Euro = 85 cents U.S. and I'll be on my way! (That really is what we enjoyed on a trip around Germany and Eastern Europe--I'm too lazy to go look up the year in my journal but it was probably very late 1990's or early 2000's not long after the Euro was adopted, because people were still going to banks to turn in their old national currency.) |

I think $1.118 was a mistake as it wasn't anywhere near that low this week lowest here was approx $1.19 - they probably meant $1.18 and change. |

My bank was SunTrust. I am going to begin checking daily as I believe what I was quoted yesterday was incorrect. The best I can find today on-line is near $1.20. Will keep all tuned in. |

Jack, Your bank quoted $1.118 for a euro? What is the name of your bank? My source of info has the euro at $1.19 or so. |

Not sure how many other than me are watching the fall of the Euro. With a trip planned this Fall I have been following the decline of the Euro very closely and will probably purchase some this week. My bank quoted the cost of the Euro yesterday at $1.118. The long-range trend is for the Euro to bottom out in June, then start rising again. Compared to what I paid last Fall in Europe, anything at the $1.10 range would be a bargain. My bank charges a one-time $20 for any amount of Euros purchased. |
