The lady I saw was most certainly a local spanish lady. She had a bunch of stuff in the purse, and it wasn't just one. Now as for taking the salt & pepper, come on, if you can't afford to buy it, you shouldn't be traveling.

To stop some of the carryouts such as salt shakers, items not bought etc., the dining staff should have an OI on how to specifically address such matters. If they would call security (I know, Security has more to do than this) and scare the heck out of the retiree/dependent and delay them for 1/2 hr to an hour perhaps word would get around. Or they could be blacklisted at the Dining facility -no chow!

Hale, well stated.

I agree with you, personally I feel taking a piece or two of fruit is no big deal. Wonder how much is dumped out anyway?

But, the sign at the Rota galley clearly states that no food items are to be removed from the galley. It cites the Cdr and the regulation.

I guess, and others may be able to explain the logic, the reason for this is that someone could "feed" a person not authorized to eat Navy chow or who is drawing rations in kind and should pay for the items.

Know it sounds nutty but that is the order.

Most retirees go into the galley and comply with all the rules. They are polite and do the right thing. I have even seen retirees grab a tray that someone did not take to window.

Then there is that one who makes it bad for all of us.

Having had a civilian career after my retirement, I can assure you that when you retire from a civilian position you wil not have all the benefits and privileges you received and enjoyed while employed.

I am not advocating pro or con but point out that a very significant part of an employees cost to the employer are the benefits that are part of the employment package. When I was working it was in the order of 35 - 40% that had to be added to salary to calculate the employer's actual cost for each employee. That includes retirement and health benefits which impact the cost of goods and services.

Personally, I see no problem with taking a piece of fruit with your breakfast and not eating it at the table but taking it with you.. And, I doubt if there would be any objection. But, when someone loads up for the day, that is a horse of another color. When you don't finish your steak at a restaurant and they box it for you, they don't add more meat or veggies.

The privileges we enjoy at retirement were not offered as an inducement to enlist or reenlist or as a beneft at retirement.

Sometimes I wonder why we (retirees) are exempted from certain privileges/benefits, thus hurting the majority of the group. I guess, we just don't learn!

Happy travels!

Phyllis, saw samething when I ate breakfast there few times last month.

The woman I saw packing fruit out was a wife of a retiree. And I saw retiree from the pax terminal taking food etc out.

There is a sign posted about not removing food from galley.

Also they had a problem when retiree was caught taking the salt and pepper shaker out of the galley.

If people need to steal the salt and pepper shaker that bad I will buy them a set at the mini mart at Rota.

Don't they know this will hurt all of us (retirees)?

I don't think retirees are the only one packing food items. When we ate there last year, I saw one local lady take a weeks worth of fruit out in her purse. I think they need to check everyone, not just cat VI.

Tony,

Posted Rota galley up date on here last month.

I was in Rota last month. Ate at the galley on weekends. This was a recent change letting retirees back (for weekends only now).

They are considering letting retirees eat in galley M-F as well.

But due to behavior and packing food items out of the galley at Rota by a few retirees, they are taking another look at the weekend opening and possible M - F open for retirees.

Leave it up to a few retirees to ruin it for other retirees.

ONLY to "ALL" military ID card holders is what a tiny sign in the pass terminal under the in/outbound monitor display states. i guess they will finally allow retirees to eat again at the gallery, located about 10mins (walking fast) straight out the terminal and straight ahead past the chapel. no hours posted on small sign
