I was able to register fairly easily. No doubt there is a learning curve, should be fine once we begin the transition. |

Check your spam box for the email verifying confirmation for new site. I have registered, confirmed and made a post on the new site. The only thing weird I noticed was that there is not enough room to type and words get broken and moved to next line. I don't know what this is called in the computer world but it is like typing a letter with only 2 inches of paper!!! I felt the new site was pretty easy to navigate and all the headers/forums are there like last cat moved, off topic, ground trans, etc. |

OK, I'm already confused. When this site goes away, and we are on the new one, will the front page of it look like is now? There is so much stuff on it, how are we going to find the topics we have here? I clicked on travel, and a bunch of stuff poped up, I hope we have the same format as this one. |

Dakota Ray, I want people to start posting on the new board to get used to it. The forum part of the new site works fine. It's the other parts that really need work. I would like to "throw the switch" sometime at the end of next week (around 25 June). I will be leaving this board up for reference for a few weeks, then in an "archive only" mode after that for some time. Bob, The new board will be set up very much like this one with the same threads for the most part. |

Hi Dirk, I think that the board needs some additional instructions or directions. My initial thoughts were that you were making us aware of the change and basically providing the new site for us to get familiar with it but not to post on it because it is not complete. Several recent posts gives me the indication that some people are already posting on it??? Do the posts on the new site get transferred to the old site? Maybe you could give us a more accurate date of change. I was able to access the new site yesterday but have not been able to access it recently today and I assume it is because you are working on it. I assume that will be a typical situation until the new site is basically complete. Without further direction, possibly some info will not be viewed by the people the need it. A simple "do not post" until instructions from you would also work!!! |

Dirk, There may be others as "ignorant" as me BUT does this mean the old site with Flight Schedules, Ground Trans, SpaceA Lodging, etc., etc will go away and one must go to the new site, register, etc to get that information??? Thanks. Bob |

Hey gang, Ok sorry for leaving out some of the key info. 1. I'm not going to "throw the switch" for about a week or two. I want to play it by ear. It needs to be a smooth transition so I'm moving forward with caution. 2. As John mentioned the "funny language" is on pages that are not completely set up yet. In addition to the forum, this site will also have have the extra capabilities of a CMS and blog also. 3. I'm going to ask people to start posting to the new site and giving it a good test flight. I'm sure that everyone will like it once they get used to it. It's really not that much different that the current setup. 4. Tony you have a good point and I will make sure to update the FAQ's and how to information to make the transition easier for everyone. 5. I will be working to put the links to John D's site, Take a hop and the other links on the main pages. I will keep the current site online as archives for quite a while. People that donated to view the archives will still have access on the current site and the new one once there are enough posts to archive. I don't want anyone to worry. The transition should be really not much more than just re-registering which only takes a minute or so. Please let me know about any other questions, comments or concerns you may have. Now let's get posting! Thanks, Dirk |

I'm getting the same thing (strange language) when I go to different articles on different pages of the new site. After I registered I received a confirmation email with instructions to follow a link to finalize registration. When I went there it just said congratulations and never asked for that HUGE confirmation code. |

Kenneth, Most of the pages haven't been setup and some of the pages are default content from the setup. Just use (focus on) the Forum for now and Dirk will let us know as he gets things tweaked. |

Dirk - I was referring to the "categories" section of the home page. When I went to the asia/pacific category the only parts that were in English were the captions. |

William, Dirk is still setting up the site and I'm sure he'll be adding a link. In the meantime, the Space-A signup is an easy one to remember - takeahop.org pr takeahop.com. Also, you can always find it from the Space-A Links page. |

Two question for me: 1. When is the switch over, i.e. when do the old pages stop working? 2. I don't seem to see all the current links on the new page, will "space-a signup" still be link? |

Dirk: Just registered/reviewed the new site. Looks like a "keeper". Will you be migrating any of the "old" posts from this site to the new site? Thanks for such a great site (actually both sites!). PS: For anyone trying to log into the new site...you have to REGISTER first, your present user name/password won't work (I know, Dirk, you said that in your post...It took me four tries before it dawned on me that I needed to REGISTER first!). Happy Travels, John |

Dirk - Is there a drop dead date for the switch-over? Right now I am the sub-poster for Jax until Saturday, June 19. Do I start posting to the new site now or continue with the old one until the switch-over is official? Please advise. |

Every new system/program, etc., brings uncertainty to users for many reasons, and I would say mainly to Spats in our age group. Nevertheless, we must be ready to abide technological changes because we cannot, repeat cannot, hold the train; the train must continue its course. Our space-a page is a very popular one, and one that I am sure Spats don't want discontinue using. So, my personal recommendation is that our Spat population be given the opportunity to learn what's new and that perhaps the change doesn't take place, until all, or perhaps most, have had the opportunity to explore this new venture. I think a set of new instructions, in addition perhaps to those FAQs found in the new page, be published ahead of time. Last but not least, I suppose that areas such as: John D's Space-A FAQs, Space-A Sign-Up, and others will NOT disappear and will remain as identical as they appear today. I'm up for new updates and keeping up with new technology, and hope others feel the same way. We all must thank Dirk for his contribution to Space-A and especially for trying to maintain this page "modern" and into the future. Happy travels to all! |

Team, I'm putting this out ahead of any "official" announcement for people to check things out. I'm in the process of moving us to a very similar discussion forum that works pretty much the same. Ok at this point you are saying, "Why move? The current site seems to be working fine." The software that currently runs the board is no longer being updated or supported by the developer. It's been doing a good job since 2003 but it's outdated. Good News/Bad News The good news is it will provide a lot more functionality like seeing who's online (optional for the user of course), and other things like an integrated Content Mangagement System (CMS). The bad news is you will have to reregister. Sorry there's no way around it. And everyone gets to start over on their post counts. Anyway I've still got work to do on it but feel free to register, log in and check it out. The link is: http://www.pepperd.com/vb |
