Folks, If you are able to post on the new forum then please use the exiting problem thread in the new forum to ask questions and resolve issues. Also, please don't ask the same questions about the new forum in BOTH forums - it's redundant and inefficient. |

William, Interesting. You are not logged off the site after a period of time? Mine logs me off if there is no activity in 15-20 minutes (my estimate). In fact, I was composing a message last night and it logged me off before I could finish it. When I tried to send it, the program indicated I was logged off. Maybe Jack and I are the only ones that happens to?? Maybe Firefox or Win XP is causing it?? Are other people able to stay logged in or are more people logged out? |

Anne, If you don't "log out", but click away from the site, and come back much later you probably won't have to log back in again, as long as your computer wasn't powered down. Yesterday I inadvertantly shut my computer off by killing the power switch before the shut down routine was complete. Today, when I turned everyting back on, my computer asked me if I wanted to resume my previous session. I said yes and didn't have to log back in. I don't recommend this technique, but it worked for me. |

Hi Anne, I am not the expert on that but only know what works for me. My program logs me out after a period of time. I would guess maybe 15 minutes but Dirk probably has the correct answer. You might try to log out and see what it looks like. You can them log in again and see what changes. You will probably only get two sections when you are logged out. I could be wrong but I believe "remember me" only remembers your password when associated with your current user name. I have no idea how the log in "times out" but I suspect that is a software function. FYI, I was writing a post on this board earlier and was slightly distracted by a door to door salesman. I was logged out before I could send the message. We have experts on this board and I am not one of them. Maybe someone can answer the comment. Happy Trails. |

Hi Dakota! With so many others having difficulty logging on to the new site, I feel a little guilty posting this observation but....when I go to the new site, either from here (the "old" site)via the link , or directly (I've tried it both ways), I seem to NOT need to log on anymore. I did for a while, but after checking "remember me" I haven't needed to since. Weird, huh, relative to others' experience. Do you think I'm not really logged in? I can view everything, including the flight schedules, and I am able to post. |

Dakota Ray, Thanks. We will all get through this together. Just like all of you, I'm learning this (plus admin) too. I figured out the problems JDB was having. He did not get to complete the email verification. |

Just a couple of comments that "could" help someone. For the people that are having trouble logging into the new system. Hitting "remember me" does not automatically log you in. You still need to put in your display name/user name and put the cursor on password and hit enter. It will probably display as *****. I initially tried it the other way and you are not really logging in. "Remember me" is only remembering the password associated with your user name. Make sure you are using your display name. This could be different than the old system where you could have a display name and a user name that were different. My display name was Dakota Ray but my user name was ********. I don't believe this system gives you the option or I did not find it. Dirk/John I also use Firefox primarily and Win XP. I have I/E 8 downloaded and tried it several times. It seems to be working OK for me. I have a site that I sometimes use and it gives me only older info with Firefox and so the I/E download was required. No one has been able to sort that one out either. I use I/E if I use that site. Info is being passed and that is good. It will take time and we are all reluctant to change. Happy Trails!!! |

Another Firefox user here, with no issues utilizing the new forums. I have no idea what may be causing the problems for certain folks. |

For what it's worth I've used Firefox for the new forum on three different computers with zero problems so I'd be very surprised if it's a browser issue. |

DeeDee, thanks so much for saving my sanity! :-) I'm convinced I'm navigating to the correct settings area and the Invisible mode function simply isn't there for me to use. I'm sure hoping it's not a browser compatibility issue, since Firefox is the one and only browser I use. Still optimistic Dirk and/or John D. can point me in a positive direction. |

Further: do NOT go to "my account". Just go to the forums, then click on "forum actions" near the top of the page. Then "general settings". |

Okay, after I log-in and I go into My Account>My Settings>General Settings, there are 7 different sub-setting options: Login & Privacy, Messaging & Notification, Private Messaging, Visitor Messaging, Thread Display Options, Date & Time Options, and Miscellaneous Options. Nowhere on the page do the words "Invisible" or "Visible" or any variation of the two appear. I am using Firefox 3.6.3 as my browser, not that it should matter. Still stumped, Folks. Vic, got your E-Mail and tried everything before posting this follow-up note. Thanks for your efforts on my effort. That was very kind of you. |

JDB, go to "forum actions" at the top of the page, then to "general settings". If you have not logged in, you will be nagged to at that point. You should see invisible/visible there. |

Dirk: As an administrator, you should be able to log into the new forum as though you are actually me and see things as I am seeing them. I'm not an IT savant, but I'm pretty damn savvy with computers and network administration and I am simply not seeing a toggle anywhere within my settings that allows me to choose to be invisible. I've looked and looked to the point of mental exhaustion. I'm just not seeing it. Perhaps you can do me the favor of logging in as me and letting me know if you see the invisible toggle (oh, and if you do, would you be so kind as to turn it on for me? Just kidding...I want to do it myself, once you verify that you can see it while pretending to be me). I don't think all of us are seeing the same screens. |

John David, If you are logged on in the new site go to my profile, then chick on settings right next to my profile. Then look on the left hand column for your profile and click on settings. The first item should be to make yourself visible or invisible. Don't forget to check the box at the bottom of the page to save settings. Good luck. |

Thank you, Dirk and John D. I had already made most of the choices you suggest, but there are a few places where my info was placed before I realized what certain choices really meant. I hope that data (such as listing my name as a 'recent visitor to this post') will expire (or at least be buried) fairly soon as other members pile on. |

Cherry, I just took a quick look and you can control what info you want shared through your Profile Privacy Settings. You can share various aspects of your info with Everyone, Registered Members, Friends or Contacts. Here's my Profile seen by an unregistered user: http://www.pepperd.com/vb/member.php?7-John-D. Nothing earth shattering about the info shared. |

Marijane, That info appears to be from this site - not the new site. I think the format is a little more secure but don't share anything on any internet site that you don't want the world to know. Cherry, Dirk may need to tweak some settings. I'm a member of several other forums that use the same software and have never had a problem with privacy, spam etc.... Bottom line, don't share any details that you don't want other folks to know. |

How can I get more privacy on the new board? When I am on it, my user name pops up as being there. For all I know, it is also in a lot of other places on that board and I really would prefer it NOT be. Like Marijane, I enjoy being a contributing part of this community of SPATs but I do NOT want to be wide open to the world at large via various search engines. Having my real first name plastered all over the place is a bummer. |

After a few weeks it will become available with archive access only. Please start using the new forum more so we will be ready for the move! Thanks |
