I notice Stan's Chaperone Service is now listed on the Travis AMCGRAM under Transportation. http://www.spacea.net/amcgrams/amcgramtravis.pdf He's listed under the section for shuttle services to the various commercial airports, but as mentioned he will give you a ride just about anywhere on/off base for a reasonable price (in my opinion). _ |

Phil: I don't if there is a price list established. On the other hand after needing ground transportation at Charleston and Dover and fining the charges, I can say without a doubt that Stan operation gives the customer a great price. In addition, his name and number is listed on the information sheet at the terminal. $5.00 for a ride to long term parking was a good price as you stated. Happy Travels. |

I'm curious. Do the folks that provide transportation to long term parking and the lodging have permission/authority to charge for their services? When we came back from the BFB get together, there were people at the arrival area offering rides to... where ever. When I tried to find out the charge, I could get no defined price for the transport to long term parking. He would not even admit that he was charging anything. He would just say "whatever you want". I gave him $5.00. It was worth that not to have to walk 1.5 miles. |

Arrived at Travis and immediately called Stan for transportation to lodging. As usually, Stan service provided us and another couple transportation to Lodge for a small fee. I don't know how he can do it for such a low fee but we gave the driver a good tip and he will be picking us up early in the morning for our flight to Southern Cal and home. Anyone visiting Travis should give him a call for fast reliable service. Happy Travels. |

We would also like to thank Stan. He has a wealth of information and so willing to share with us all.... We have called Stan on many occasions and he is always on time... We are planning to trip end of February and hope to see Stan again. Great job Stan, we love you and really appreciate all you do for us. Aloha, Sam & Pat from Hawaii |

I was in Travis in Dec. and saw Stan, I printed out the kind comments that all of you have made. He was very appreciative, I think it really touched him to think that people remember him. |

Stan told me that if nothing is hopping and he's going that way, he often offers free trips for stranded pax over to billeting, probably to Bx too. He told me that the Wing offered him a temp 60 contract to operate on base, but AAFES stepped up and countered with the 90 day offer and possible office space. I may have some of these "facts" wrong, but I think that was the gist of what I heard him say. |

William, Interesting comment about Stan having a 90-day contract with AAFES. That bit of info clears up something that was puzzling me. When I was at the Travis terminal a couple weeks ago, there was an overhead announcement for anyone desiring "Free" ground transportation to the Travis BX complex to please procede to the parking lot in front of the terminal. There was Stan's van waiting to transport those who wanted to go to the BX. Now I know why the offer for a free ride. Nice of AAFES (and Stan) to provide the ride. _ |

Talked to Stan today at Travis, very personable guy and his fares are reasonable. I suggested he should advertise on this site, like Horace Freeman does out at Charleston. He is evaluating the opportunity cost associated with the opening of an office onbase. He has two vans and a couple of side business and is unsure about expanding into a more permanent operation. Currently, he has a 90 day contract with AAFES to operate on base, and seems to have a pretty good business plan. He said to contact him via his cell anytime I needed a taxi. 707-446-9801. |

I concur with everything that is being said about Stan. We used Stan's service two months ago and at that time he informed me that he was going through a "contract bidding" process to have an office inside the passenger terminal at Travis. If he gets this contract, this will greatly benefit space A travelers. |

I have to say I agree with everyones comment here about Stan! There is truly not enough words to express how aewsome he is. My kids love him and know him as " Stan the man with the Caravan" He is dependable, reliable, and absolutely a friendly gentleman! I have used him 3 times since I started space-a traveling and he makes it so easy for me to tranport myself and 3 children. All i have to say is "Thank you Stan" for a job well done....Semper Fi |

I echo what William said, great service from Stan. I was at Travis a couple weekends ago and met Stan at billeting early on a Saturday morning. He offered our family of 4 and all our crap...I mean very important stuff...a ride to the terminal for $3. Very reasonable since we had walked to billeting from the terminal the evening before and wasn't looking forward to that walk again. It's an easy walk, but with two small kids and all the stuff that goes with them (car seats, extra bags), I thought 3 bucks was a fair deal. Well, our plane got delayed from Saturday until early Sunday. With the delay, I decided to rent a car at Travis. I needed it from Saturday to Sunday. I called Enterprise on base since they will "pick you up" (wrong!), but mainly because they have a drop box in the terminal. We were hoping to fly out early Sunday morning so I thought having the drop box would be a big help. The big problem for me was that Enterprise is closed on Sunday. If I rent on Saturday, I will incur charges until Monday morning when they open. That meant a two-day rental when I only need the car for one day. I also called Budget, which is near the Travis main gate. The price was the same per day as Enterprise, plus they are open on Sunday. Therefore would only have to rent the car for one day. HOWEVER, they would give me a ride back to the terminal on Sunday, but only if I dropped the car off during business hours. Since I had an early AM showtime on Sunday, this wouldn't work for me. Budget does not have a drop box in the terminal. I ended up going with Enterprise for the convenience. Being able to drop the car at base ops (next to terminal) and leave the keys in the drop box after space-a roll call was a huge benefit. On Sunday morning I ran into Stan again at billeting. He asked if my family needed a ride to the terminal. I told him no, I had rented a car from Enterprise. Stan told me I should have called him cause he has "a deal" with Budget for a better price than Enterprise. Plus he will return the car/keys to Budget for you if you have to depart before they open. I noticed he has a Budget advertisement on the back of his van. Lastly, when I called Enterprise on Saturday morning to rent a car I was told they normally could pick me up, but today they only have one person on duty and could not come pick me up at the terminal. I walked the mile or so to their office in the BX mini-mall. _ |

Don, You won't find it in the FAQ. You will find it on the spacea.net Travis page under "Ground Transportation." To save a click of the mouse it is (707) 761-4430 |

Sorry John, didn't read your post all the way through. I will look at the FAQ, I will say I did look when your site was down, but that would be lying. |

I landed at Travis and needed to rent a car. After calling Hertz and getting a good quota, I call Stan for transportation to Hertz. Upon pick-up he recommend another company because their price would most likely be lower. He was right. He also picked up a young lady who was travelling with a little child and provided her free transportation to lodging. Stan provides first class service and I recommend those who need ground transportation in the Travis area to contact him. He is also retired military, knows the area and the companies who provide services at a reasonable cost for military folks. Happy Travels. |

Effective 1 July 09, the public transportation between the Bay Area and Travis changed. I will be writing up the new system and will post it on this board as the route on John D's board no longer is correct. Good news---now it only takes one and a half hours to get from Oakland to Travis and was very easy to use public transportation. More to follow. Happy traveling, Marv |

I would like to put in a plug for Stan if you need ground transportation at Travis. The gals at lodging will give you his card. He is retired military so he can pick you up in his van at the lodge (no long walk to the gate) and take you where you need to go. We just used his services on Sunday to pick up a rental car at Avis. He's a great guy and he gave us great service. |
