I think it is high time that I give some principal information about the total of a car rental in Germany (regardless of which company you rent from):
1. the rental rate which goes to the provider - i.e. whoever owns the cars.
2. Airport surcharges - by now 20% in Germany on the rental charges - if you pick up at the airport (regardless who you rent from)
3. Road Fee (collected to make up for fees to be paid to the German Government's transportation department,
4. on top of all this 19 % Value Added Tax as stipulated by the Government.

Conclusion by sheer math: if you have a rental of 2 weeks at 300.-- Euros (after our discount of 15%) you still pay in addition 60.-- Euro for picking up at the airport, which brings it to 360.-- then you add to this 16.80 for road fee
which brings it to 376.80. Now we add 19% VAT to that and we have a total of Euro 448.30.

That is 49.43% in addition to the bare rental charges none of the rental car companies have any control about. So be careful before you think you got a better deal, until you know the TOTAL net cost of your rental. Make sure you know your discount on the rental charges and what is there in hidden cost, such as surcharges for additional drivers etc. The devil is allways in the details.
After almost 2 decades of working with Hertz I am still convinced of their impeccable service and integrity and understand that everybody in this industry is trying to compete with them. Hey - that's called free enterprise, as long as the customers are fully informed.

Sincerley, Annemarie

Denny: The USAA # is: 77694 and AARP: 50075 When I used the Charter # for a 4 day Stateside rental in March was quoted aomewhere around $450. USAA and AARP were around $250. Seems unusual so may have done something wrong but that's what I remember.. Bob

Longtime Annemarie -I worked for Hertz twice (total about 2 years) and National 6 years. I was cleaning out old files yesterday and found my Hertz pay stubs.

Wish I still got employee rates

Thanks Bill, yes it still works and due to feedback I get it works well. You may all remember that in addition to the 15% Discount there is no prepayment required, additional drivers are free of charge (which, if you have people in toe can be quite an additional savings), you can make changes or cancel 24/7 using Hertz Reservation Center 1-800-654-3001 and give them our Charter US CDP 650209.
Besides, I still believe that Hertz is No.1 - worked with them for 18 years now and appreciate their realiable service, both for you and me.

Greetings, Annemarie

Try either USAA or AARP discount codes if you are a member. I compared those to the 650209 code and cut the Hertz quote approximately in half. Bob

Still works. Got my reservation for May 31st in Frankfurt with turn in at Ramstein and Charter gets the credit.

Thanks Annemarie

******Hertz 1-800-654-3001 and give them CDP number 650209. This will get you in touch with Hertz International Reservation Center in Oklahoma City and will answer all your questions. 15% Discount goes with this CDP and prepayment is not required.*******

If you need an honest quote for a car rental in Germany call Hertz 1-800-654-3001 and give them CDP number 650209. This will get you in touch with Hertz Internationl Reservation Center in Oklahoma City and will answer all your questions. 15% Discount goes with this CDP and prepayment is not required. Additional drivers are free of charge and changes/cancellations can be made 24/7. That should make it easy considering that your flights are often not guaranteed on that day
you wish to leave.

Good look and safe travel,

Annemarie

Roger,

Look below at the second post - it has some codes. Also, if a USAA member then try a quaote through the USAA web site. If heading to Germany try a quote from Ann Marie at Charter US.

John, think you are right. Robert, the second poster to this thread gave some codes.

In the meantime, I did find this site - which lists lots of codes.

I will "bump it up a little" Cherry. Actually this is from this string!!! This worked for me but everyone needs to check all possiblities!!

Here is another Budget Code that I recently used in Minneapolis/St Paul.

It is an active and retired military code for Budget only. V053900. You don't need the secret handshake if you are military. It beat all other codes that I could find and it also beat Enterprise away from the airport.

Another web site that you might check is http://www.rentalcodes.com/

Happy Trails!!!

Someone asked in the Trip Reports section for the Budget rental car military discount code, and I've emailed it back-channel (using Dakota Ray's info from a prior post). However, I think this thread with its valuable info (including that code) deserves to be bumped up, so here it is!

Copy off these codes -- you never know when you'll need them!

Hi Leland,

I think that Jerry is correct with all zero's but I don't remember and I can not tell by my completed agenda. Try all zero's and make sure that you get the discounted rate. If not-use an oh. It saved me about $50 over any other discount with Budget and about $200 per week over any other agency. It may not always be the best rate or location but it was for me!!!

I think that I got this code from Military.com and I know that I qualify for it. Many of the others were questionable and I also was apprehensive about using them.

Happy Trails!!!
