Wes, We're hoping to catch the C-17 out of Jackson the week after Easter. We won't take the Medevac Bus from Landstuhl until April 20th. I've done lots of research so email me directly if you have anything I might help you with. Barbara |

Thanks William. I kinda thought that might be the case. My son was stationed in Vicenza in '02 and took us there. |

Wes, I think the small US/NATO facility at Verona has been closed for many years. I got this info from a US civilian employee at Vicenza billeting. He used to work at Verona, and said everything there is shuttered. |

Barbara, When in April are you going? We are going to try to leave Dover on the 2nd or 3rd of April and would be nice if we could catch this shuttle. Wife's cousin is near Verona. Does anyone know if there is a shuttle from Vicenza to the small Army facility in Verona? |

I contacted the Medevac POC at the Landstuhl hospital and the gentleman stated there is no talk, scheduled or confirmed shutodown date of this medevac bus service. |

Thank you both John and Brian. I have purchased one of those prepaid calling cards online and it works great. With having to use 35 digits to call overseas (toll free, password, and overseas number) the speed dial works great. Have called several times and of course weekend/time difference. Will call until an answer and will post. At 1 cent a minute I am having fun calling all the Germany and Italy bases for "heads up" info for lodging and flights to get a pattern. Fred |

Fred, Best to call the contact number at Vicenza listed in the first post during normal duty hours. Vicenza is +6 hours from East Coast Time. It is a 1 deep position in the office so you may have to call a few times to be able to talk with someone as they have other duties besides Medevac. |

Is it the opinion or knowledge of readers of this thread that the Vicenza to Landstuhl to Vicenza medevac bus will still be operating during May '10; my planned usage? |

As an FYI, Vicenza has been building a new hospital to replace the Health Center. The new hospital will have expanded services that they currently do not have at the Health Center. I am going out on a limb here and guessing that if the Medevac bus stops running, it is because the services used at Landstuhl will no longer be needed when the new hospital is operational. Not factual info on my part, just a guess. |

Dinotars, the bus is structured to take patients for clinic appointments from Vicenza to Landstuhl and return. Other than the stops at Ramstein and Vogelweh, to pick up patients from billeting, there were no other patient stops on our trip down and back. I guess I need to add that when we boarded the bus at Vicenza, one of the clinic staff said the bus was going to stop running at the end of the year. This was November 2009 and I assume she was talking about the end of the fiscal year (Sep 30, 2010). |

Were there any stops on the route where pick up or exit was made for patients? If so what locations. |

Linda, When we rode it, it made three stops (one quick) at rest stops along the autobahn going to and coming back from Vicenza. They were a different set of stops on each leg. |

Where does the bus stop on the way from Vicenza to Landstuhl? Can you get off there and be on your own merry way? Do you have to stay on all the way to Landstuhl? |

From my limited experience: the bus arrived in Vicenza with NO passengers, only some luggage, and left with 1 patient and 4 Space A passengers. The bus is a normal touring bus which can carry probably 50 passengers or more |

Keep in mind that this is a medevac bus and even if you get on at Landstuhl you could be "bumped" at the other stops if there are medevac-related pickups. |

I agree that it would be better to catch the bus at Landstuhl than Ramstein. There might not be any room after loading at Landstuhl. My idea would be to take a taxi from Ramstein to Landstuhl, arrive early enough to improve chances of getting on. Larry |

When I rode it a year and half ago, it stopped at the old Ramstein billeting office, and the Vogelweh billeting office. The driver indicated it would only stop there if needed. I suspect they now stop at the hotel across from the terminal (if needed). If you plan on catching the bus going South, best be at point of origin, ie. Landsthul Army Hospital. |

For those of you interested in taking the Medevac Bus: It leaves Vicenza Monday and Thursday at 0700 from the commissary parking lot (be there 10' earlier). All you need is your military ID. It leaves Landstuhl in front of the Emergency Room on Tuesdays and Fridays at 0900. It makes a stop at Ramstein at 0930 and at Vogelweh at 1000. Contact number in Vicenza (0730-1600) is Comm.0444-71-7777; DSN: 634-7777. I don't have the numbers for Landstuhl, but it should be the Medevac Office in the hospital. The bus ride is on a chartered bus with toilet, takes 12 hours and makes 3-4 short stops |
