I know the base bus stops running after 1800 hrs. and does not run on week-ends. I also remember the bus going from the main terminal to the other side of the base passing thru the main part of town (where you can get a bus to Pordenone). Are you saying that this is nolonger possible? Thank. |

Barbara Patterson: Bus tickets for the local city buses can only be bought at one of the street side "tobacco stands" on the Italian Economy. You cannot purchase them anywhere on base. (Sometimes you can pay the driver of the bus directly.) When you are in town -- that's where you get them. Without the base shuttle doing that run any more I have no idea how you can get to a "tobacco stand". Perhaps a local serviceman might be willing to drive you R/T. |

Barbara, According to the Aviano AMCGAM (available at spacea.net) there is a Europcar at the BX/Commissary complex. |

Where is the rental car located? How do you get a bus ticket? |

The blue bus does have a stop along the highway. When we were last there, the stop was not close to the flightline main gate, rather it is about 1/3 mile, more or less, away (toward Pordenone). If you have your ticket, you could catch the blue bus at that stop. |

On 2/2/2010 I arrived in Aviano @ noon. The only way now to get to the Pordenone Train Station is to walk the 500 yards from the Billeting office to the main gate ( after riding the base shuttle from the terminal to Billeting ) and take a cab. Must call the cab from Billeting. Cost is 25 Euros. Try to share a ride with someone. No longer does the base shuttle take you off base to allow you to take the local bus to the station. |
