If you have not rented a car and you are on the way to Hawaii- Enterprize is out of cars at PH and K-Bay, Hertz has a big sign up at Hickam, no cars till further notice and the rep told Jess the cost at the airport is $120 a day. We drove out to Pearlridge to pick up a Toyota, no jokes please. Don't know why-- unless a bunch of snowbirds here. I can say the cars were on the H-1 and H-3 all at the same time as we left Hickam for K-Bay. |

My unsolicited experience with rental cars at BFB '10:
- Reservations made with HNL Enterprise through Costco Travel
- $73.36 total for 3 days (Jan. 26, 27, 28)
- 2009 Hyundai Elan 4GLS
- Cheerful, efficient staff

On previous visits, we greatly preferred Pearl Enterprise over the new Hickam Hertz. However, last November, booking through USAA, Hertz was not only less expensive, but we could book a commercial airport pick up, and drop off at Hickam for no additional charge. We were told to come back if we didn't get out and we could have the car back. They have made a big turn around for the better at Hickam since the early days of the Hertz take over, so I really think someone must have been listening! |

Like Jack & Phil, we just returned. We had reservation with Hertz, who said they woul dpick us up. When I called they said they would NOT pick us up. Called Enterprise at Pearl, they matched Hertz, sent a car to get us and when we extended for an extra day and turned in at K Bay, nothing was a problem. The young lady from the K Bay office came to the terminal where several of were, she too took the keys and said if we didn't get out to call. We were able to leave the car at the terminal and they would get them all back to the site at the PX. I was happier with there service than the Hertz guy at the PX at Pearl. Also someone we knew was picking up at that Hertz, no small cars, sorry you will have to rent a big car. |

Thanks for reminding me Phil.... Since I was flying in/out of Hickam, the convenience of renting in the Hickam terminal was huge for me. If I had been by myself I wouldn't have cared a whole lot if I rented at Hickam or Pearl. I would have went with who had the best deal. But since I was traveling with my wife and two kids (and with what seemed like way too many bags!), I desired to rent in the terminal for the convenience. Not only was I able to rent with Hertz in the terminal, they had the better rate. Bonus! _ |

For our time during BFB 2010, I too did a comparison with Hickam and Pearl and not only found Hickam cheaper but more convenient. The convenience being pick up and return and accommodation by the representative. She took my key when we were selected for our return flight and held the turn-in until after our delayed flight got off the ground. I could have returned and gotten the car back at any time without penalty. |

James, I was at Hickam in November. I too had been reading how Hertz in the terminal was way more expensive than Enterprise at Pearl. Like Jack did, I checked online rates for Hickam and Pearl and found it cheaper at Hertz. Got a car for about $140/week and was even upgraded to a small SUV. Nice customer service too. _ |

James, Just came back from the BFB in HI.... Upon arriving and sitting in terminal, I overheard people talking about car rentals.... I butted into their conversation that I had read (on this board) that Enterprise on Pearl was cheaper than Hertz... I'd read that Hertz was taking advantage of travelers with being sole car rental provider on base etc.... I was told.... No, it's the other way around now... (Apparently they had seen the light) I went on line.... did a four day comparison for an economy car.... Friday 1300 thru Tuesday 1300... Qoute from Enterprise was $141, Hertz $123.... I went with Hertz of course. When I went to pick it up, it was only $118... Nothing more need be said.... |

James, Check them all. I found that Enterprise at the airport was cheaper (even with the airport surcharge) than Pearl or Hickam on a 12 day rental that I turned in yesterday. I found no bargain trying to reserve one on base. |
