Yes, we made it to Hawaii last Monday! Took a taxi to HNL since we were in a hurry and it cost about $12. Caught flight to Big Island and then when we came back through we decided to try the bus back to Hickam. From baggage you just go out the exit, get on the elevator to the 2nd floor, follow the signs to valet parking, go out the door and there is the bus terminal. #19 takes you on base and it is $2.25 per person. We got dropped right by the lodging registration building. Had two big backpacks but it was no problem as the bus was not at all crowded. Worked great!

Jean, hopefully you are in Hawaii by now. Would be interested to hear what you found as the best way to get from HNL to Hickam. Others may need the info also. Mahalo

Luggage on the bus can be a problem (anything more than a carry on). However there is little ridership between Hickam and the airport, so the driver's are more lax on luggage. Tell the driver you are just going to the airport, he will most likley overlook more bags. Also, if you have a medicare card the bus is only $1.

Jeff, we are Cat 6 on a budget and so are always looking for our cheapest options. Will take a taxi if need be. We are sitting in the Pax terminal at Travis right now and have been manifested on a flight to Hickam for this morning. We went to Hickam space A a couple of years ago but just spent our time in Oahu. This time we have friends to stay with on the Big Island so that's why we are working on how to get to Honolulu airport. Thanks for everybody's help!

Mike,

You are correct. It is now out the front door and to the right.

Just a minor point in reference to John D's statement "You can catch the bus approx 200 yds from the terminal."

When I was at Hickam a couple years ago the bus stop was indeed about 200 yds away as you went LEFT out the front door of the terminal.

However, when I was at Hickam in Nov 09, I noticed the bus stop had moved to almost directly in front of the terminal, just slightly to the RIGHT as you came out the front door. I would say no more than 50 yds away.

Am I wrong about the bus stop location? I don't get to Hickam that often and was just wondering.

Sign in the terminal-no cars until further notice, Enterprise at PH may have a rental. Call before hand.
Enterprise told Jess very high prices at the airport. So, check out your options before hand.

I didn't see much info to go on; vacation, active duty, retired your profile,... Why not just get a cab at the Airport. Baggage on TheBus is a problem.

Jean,

You can catch the bus approx 200 yds from the terminal (Source: Spacea.net's Hickam Wiki Page). There are also links to the bus schedule and current fares and discounts (exact change needed).

Linda: I believe the bus mentioned is number 19. You can also rent a car at Honolulu Airport and drive to Hickam, and if it is a Hertz rental, you can turn it in at the terminal on base when the contract is up as they have a drop box there. Enterprise is on the Navy side of the base, but the car cannot be turned in at the terminal, but at their office. Enterprise has a pickup policy but I don't know the current status of this arrangement at Pearl Harbor. You can always call them directly for information.

Linda: There are about 10 bus stops on Hickam, the bus from the airport stops at the Elliot gate and continues in a circle around the base stopping at the BX/Commisary, at lodging and other designated stops marked by bus signs and terminates at the Hickam terminal. It waits there for about 20/25 minutes before starting it's trip retracing its route back to the airport & downtown Waikki. No problem putting baggage on the bus between the airport & terminal in either direction.

Timely info for us since we hope to arrive from Travis tomorrow - thanks! My question is: Where is the bus stop at Hickam? Near the gate?

Linda,

Also, please review the suggested routes included on the Hickam Wiki Page available from the Location Listings as they may help you to navigate the local area.
