A 2nd class ticket is quite sufficient. Also on the way back, if you buy your ticket 3 days in advance, you can get an even greater discount For example, a ticket from Munich to Landstuhl would normally cost approx. 160 euros. Is there any way to save money on the train trip since we can't plan to book passage at a specific time? I've searched and read Bahn.de, Rick Steeves, and various postings searching for cost-savers on the train, but my eyes glaze over. It appears to me the only option is to show up and pay full fare. Am I wrong?
