We flew into Charleston about 12:30AM last Wed. night. No trouble getting a taxi to the airport. The Avis counter was still open. I think Hertz was also still open. Rep said she stayed open until the last commercial flight came in which I think she said was 1:30am. One way rental to Norfolk was $133.00 total.

David, good catch.
I guess I should have checked Horace's website a little closer for the correct number? My bad.

Welcome to the board.

Mike's posting listing Horace Freemon's phone number contains a typo. The number should be (843)830-7673.

Mike. Your info. was right on. None of the taxi's at the taxi stand could take me to the base so I called Yellow Cab and was taken right to the terminal. The price was $10.50. The taxi kiosk was able to furnish me the number.
Thanks for the assistance.

We were in Charleston about two weeks ago and took a couple of taxis during our time there. If you need a couple early in the mornings most of the cab companies will not come out because they cannot make any money taking you from Lodging to the terminal. One call to Horace Freeman was all it took. He took care of our needs and the price was less than half the price I paid another company who would not come out early in the morning. Horace is the man to call when needing transportation in the Charleston area. Happy Travels.

Earl,

The Charleston AMCGRAM and info sheets posted at Spacea.net contain info and other contact numbers for using taxis in the area.

In addition there is a map showing the location of the Pax Terminal in relation to the front gate.

Earl,
Last year CHS AFB starting allowing a couple of taxi services on base. I can't remember both companies but I'm sure one of them was Yellow Cab. As Ed said, check with the folks at the taxi stand outside. Let them know you need a taxi that can get on base. Fare about $10.

Or, just call Horace Freeman (843)860-7673
Freeman Transportation: http://www.chastaxi.com/
he advertises on this site and he will take care of you.
Horace is well known as a special friend to all SPATS in the Charleston area and will help.

From the main gate (off Dorchester Rd) to the terminal is about one mile. Go straight on the road as you enter the base. You'll pass the lodging office and the Club on your left. You'll stop at two or three 4-way stop signs along the way. As you reach the end of the road it comes to a T-intersection (3-way stop). Go right and the terminal is a couple hundred yards on the left.

Only some. Tell them what you want to do at the taxi kiosk outside the arrival area and you'll be taken care of.

I will be flying into Charleston tonight (midnight)on commercial transportation and was not sure about transportation to the air base.
I see there is taxi transportation available but I was wondering if they all are allowed on to the base or just certain ones. Any suggestions out there. If I have to be dropped off at the gate how far is it to the terminal ? Thanks for the inputs.
