We traveled three times from Rota to Barcelona. Can add that you need to go to Puerto de Santa Maria to get a reservation for the train first. And taking the bus there is very easy as noted. Also taking a vueling flight from Jerez is often cheap and there is a bus from the airport to Jerez proper and then a connection to Rota. You can at least plan your trip back to Rota on the plane. Just remember the luggage weight is limited on Vueling and expensive if you are over. |

We flew into Rota last year and took the train from Sevilla to Barcelona to catch our cruise ship (NCL Jade - Awesome!). Upon return we flew on Vueling airlines from Barcelona to Jerez de la Frontera, rented a car and drove back to Rota for the trip home. Everything worked beautifully for our family of 5 with 2 elementary aged kids and a toddler. We debated renting a car one way to/from Barcelona but ultimately are glad we didn't. Good luck! |

David: Welcome to the Board! If you have not yet done so, please familiarize yourself with JohnD's SpaceA Pages (link top left), the general layout of this site and the Search Function (magnifying glass at top center) of this site. Nearly all questions can be answered from those three sources. Having read thru the FAQs is a great start and I would suggest reading thru the other sections on JohnD's site as well. Hopefully you will be shooting to arrive Rota at least 14 days before your cruise date. SpaceA is great when you don't have to meet a firm schedule...it can cost quite a bit to "catch up" with your ship. I have found SpaceA great to return from a cruise, but pretty stressful if you have to meet the cruise date. Happy travels, John |

David, John D is right, just follow his instructions. To me, a train ride from Seville to Barcelona would the best and possibly cheapest ride. Of course, you would need to take a bus to Puerto Santa Maria and then a train from Puerto to Seville, but it should be very easy. Happy travels and good luck! |

David, If you check the Ground Transportation Forum you should find quite a few previous posts on this same route with some info. In addition, the Archives may have some other info. |
