In 2008 we rented a car on Aviano AB and returned it on base in Vicenza. There was no dropoff charge. The counter people at both places were very friendly and helpful. But there are usually only one or two on duty at a time so be patient when calling. It takes a while for them to finish with the walk-ins and pickup the phone. These two, as well as Camp Darby, are not listed on the civilian websites.

Barb, if arranging to drop the car as Anthony suggests, just be aware that the name of the town is Pordonone (each syllable is pronounced, so it's "Por-duh-NO-nay") -- I'm not criticizing his spelling, just hoping to help you and others IF the rental car people here aren't swift enough to figure out what destination you're asking for!

Barb....I would also look up Eurocar here in the U.S....I have done that and found it to be a lot cheaper...the only problem was, they did not have a listing for Aviano Italy (there is a Eurocar on base at the BX), but anyway I wanted to pick up the car in Mestri outside of Venice and return it to Aviano. I had to list it that I was returning it to Pordionae (15 K from Aviano.) When I picked up the car I spoke to the folks in Mestri and they had the base listed so I returned it there....no problem....again cheaper..

Hey, Guys
Thanks for all your diligence in the contact info for Europcar. I love the way everyone jumps on a problem to help someone.

I found one (Europcar) on the web listed as "Vicenza" but do not know if that's the Camp Elderle location.

And, the price quoted is $50 plus/minus more than the same thing at Hertz, although apparently no Hertz on Base. Guess I won't know the answer to this question without talking to them.

Hey, we've got two people agreeing on something. That is (a) unusual around here, and (b) encouraging as to its factual basis. I, for one, am happy.

William, that is the same number as George gave, but with the Italy country code (39) added. So it should work - or at least two out of two experts agree.

Here’s a phone number for EuropCar that I got off the web: 0444-505916 or DSN 634-8019. We called them when we arrived in Ramstein. We had three or four days before the medevac bus left for Vicenza, so we had a little lead time.

Yes, EuropCar is in the PX complex, an easy walk from lodging.

George, or anyone

How do you reserve a car at Vicenza? I understand there is Europcar at the PX.
