Forgot to add: Hickam Hertz is sold out. Hertz at the airport is $220+. Hertz at the airport with drop-off at Hickam was $176/USAA rate. Hotwire was the better deal

Forgot to add: Hertz rentals for Hickam are sold out now. With pick-up at airport and drop-off at Hickam Hertz/ USAA rate was $125 plus taxes total $176. The better deal was Hotwire. We have to drop off at Alamo at the airport, but it is so easy and quick. Bus stop is right across from rental office.

Honolulu 3-30-2010
We arrived here at Hickam last night. I got on Hotwire in our lodging room and booked our car for pick-up today at Honolulu airport. We took the bus($1 w/medicare card) and got off at the airport(about 10 min ride). Rental car buses are on the lower level. We got Alamo for $142.65 for one week(that was 12.95/day plus airport taxes). That is correct you don't know what rental agency you get with hotwire until after you have paid. That wasn't a problem for us. I checked Hertz site and a one week rental was $220.

We have been using USAA site for Hertz. Pick up at Honolulu airport and drop off at Hickam, $150 a week last October, and free second driver. This was for the next size up from the smallest car.

We also used USAA site for a Hertz rental in Alaska, and beat every other source we tried by lots of $. Upgraded to an SUV and could drop off at the Elmendorf BX or Anchorage airport for no extra charge.

We have successfully used Hotwire, but think in these two cases we wanted to be sure to be able to drop at Hickam & Elmendorf, and Hotwire doesn't let you know which company you'll have.

That is correct Phil. What is there to stop you, after you land at Hickam, to go to the computers at the USO, your laptop, or any other computer that's available, make your reservation and pick up your car an hour or two later at the airport. Get on the Bus & for one/two bucks and you are there at the apt. to catch your shuttle to the rental agency.

You asked if anyone could beat the $277.00 quote so here it is.

Yep,Hotwire has fantastic prices providing you are sure of picking the car up at the time stipulated. Space A is not that certain.

The following scares me: "Your account will be charged at the time of booking for the full rental amount, including all tax recovery charges and fees. Bringing you rock-bottom priced rental cars means bookings are final (no refunds, no changes, non-transferable)."

You do not go to a specific rental company. when you google rental cars, the web site guarantees that you will be getting your vehicle from a major rental company. Why dont you go to Hotwire.com and get all the info?

Paul, which rental company offered this rate? It certainly is a good one.

Phil:

Go to Hotwire.com, I just did.

I typed in the date 4-5 to 4-12 for a economy car rental at the airport.

This is what I got back: Daily rate $8.95 X 7 days = $62.65

Taxes $46.06

Grand Total for 7 days = $108.71

Thanks, JEB.

So discount codes are the secret?

That's good to know.

I do search the internet for codes but usually don't find much for Hertz. I used the AARP code for my last rental. I also booked out ahead about a month or so, not sure if booking early made the difference. Here's the details off my email reservation form for my last week's rental:

JEB,
Go to the Hertz site now and tell me what you see for a weeks car rental.

If you can get a rental for less than the $277.23 that they quote, tell us how.

The Honolulu airport is even higher at Hertz.

Enterprise at Pearl is $211.08

A little lower at the airport.
Airport Enterprise is $196.77

I made a comment a couple of weeks ago about an upcoming Hertz rental in Hickam and my quoted price of $178 for a week. I just returned from Hickam where I had a Honda Civic for 1 FULL week and the price was $158, $20 less than I was quoted from my internet reservation.

This may be a helpful hint....I handed the Hertz agent my email reservation form showing the $178 and asked him if he could help me out, I thought that was a little high. He immediately lowered it by $20 with no other authorization from anyone. It pays to ask!

I'm not sure why some quoted rates for others are so high, I have NEVER even paid as much as $200 per week for a car there, either from Hertz now or Enterprise when they were there.
