It might be helpful to realize that each country in Europe has it's own laws and regulations (regardless of the EU). If the rental car industry has to return the vehicle to the country of origin because of license tag regulations i. e. using their own staff to do so, it becomes a rather costly rental which requires dropcharges to cover the expenses. Naturally they vary due to distance and man-hours issues. Annemarie |

Alan, just saw on Sky News that a person who has been trying to get back to the UK from Germany, hired a car to Calais then caught the ferry across. Got a train or bus from there back home. Might be a cheaper way than a drop off in the UK. |

I suspect that while it will turn out to be "possible" to rent a car in Germany and return it in England, you will find it is incredibly costly. European countries may be in one common market BUT the car rental companies don't appear to know it yet! And -- because once you're in Britain you will be driving on the left side of the road, I believe you would be safer (and the driving would be MUCH easier) if you'd turn in your first rental car before leaving Germany, take public transportation of some sort to England, and rent another, left-hand drive, vehicle there. |

Best thing is to check with the rental company in question - they will let you know for sure if it is possible. |

Probably not - not from my experience. The only time when renting a car in Europe that I was able to rent in one location and drop off in another was in Spain. Rented in Malaga and dropped off in Madrid. Ciao/Wanda |
